I just was notified that my "Panda kit" with harness box were shipped today. I expect 2 or more months to get the Comma 3x so I guess the Panda Kit will sit around a while waiting on the Comma 3x and the Ford Q4 wiring harness to arrive.

If I am reading the Open Pilot information correctly, they still don't read speed limit signs and adjust accordingly. That will be the loss of a feature I like currently when switching from BlueCruise 1.0 to Open Pilot. However the features gained should be well worth the trade off.

You only need the Panda kit for older hardware. The 3x has CAN-FD built in, so you just need that and a harness. Unless you were ordering it for an older unit, you can return that.

Some of the Openpilot forks do support this. The sunnypilot fork can read the speed limit sign identifications made by the vehicle’s OEM systems over CAN. Currently AFAIK longitudinal support isn’t yet implemented for our trucks anyway, so gas/brake would be handled by the OEM system for now. I plan on trying to work on that when I receive my 3x.

I'm going to grab a 3X and enjoy it with my Nissan Leaf while you gurus figure out the F150 wrinkles.

Seems to already work well with the Nissan ProPilot equipped Leaf, which mine is.

Thanks in advance for what I believe is going to be pretty cool to watch develop.

Thanks, I was unaware of that. I will return the Panda kit since I ordered the 3x. That is a nice surprise!

Interesting. Is it a one-time purchase fee, or does it require a monthly/yearly subscription, as well? Seeing that Ford wants $900 a year for BC to work after the trial expires, if it is a one-time charge, this seems like a no-brainer for people that like and use ADAS,
Wait really? $900?? I thought it was 600 for 3 years

Ford has announced an updated pricing model. I still haven't confirmed if Job1 owners still qualify for the $600 price or not. For sure 2023 buyers are paying the $900/year.

@hitchhiker, I orded a Comma3 last night for my 2021 F-150 Platinum to participate in the experiment with you all.

Question, my truck came with the CoPilot Active 2.0 PREP, do you see any issues with this being the prep package? Or will I need some kind of hardware upgrade that makes it BC 1.2 capable?

See the chart in the OP. You should be good. ?

EDIT: You should be good for OpenPilot. I have no idea if you are good for BC1.2

I hope you ordered a Comma3x, not a Comma3. If you have a plain Comma3 you will also need a RedPanda device, making it more expensive and complicated than the Comma3X

Bluecruise 1.2 is a software only update, although to my knowledge Ford has only committed to delivering that to MachE and Lightening owners, we are just assuming it would come to ICE F150 at some point.

All of the underlying hardware is the same so there's no reason that it won't go to the ICE as well. The limiting factor will be what issues pop up with deployment and how fast they can fix it. There's nothing special about the hardware differences in sync4 vehicles. It's all the same on the inside sans some very minor differences. Ford screwed up by making unique parts with the little deletes they did that didn't even save $1 per vehicle. That's how bonkers their approach is.

Tesla on the other hand literally uses the exact same part between all models -- which is funny because they branded some of the components internally with "model y", yet they're found in all vehicles. Ford's parts / engineering division has created a mess of things that have no reason to be so complicated. They do things like this so they can sell future parts, except they can't even supply the parts. Could you imagine the horror of customers being able to source 2nd hand parts from wrecked vehicles across the entire line? Gosh, they'd lose sooo much $ on parts they can't even supply as it is.....

Knowledge Manager, use PB as my office.
If you want a way to fund your research, develop a hack for the heat exchanger delete! You will sell millions of them, since the HE is a common failure point, and not really needed!

It's very much so needed for two reasons, cabin heat, and keeping the engine warm / bringing up to temp fast. it reduces wear on the ICE upon initial start and in modes where the engine is off more than it's on.
