Just hit 1,000 miles and it's time for my break-in oil change. What do I tell them when I call? Is this covered under the "dealer's maintenance warranty" bullshit they sell you? Is it even expensive enough to justify driving 40 miles when there is a Ford Quick Lane 10 miles away?

Did you buy a maintenance plan? If not, go anywhere for an oil change. I go to Valvoline and do full synthetic. The blend they use at the dealer isn't some magic fluid.

Yeah I bought the plan. Probably take it up there.

Exactly, and here you'll get Valvoline anyway at the dealer. They don't use Motorcraft for anything unless it's warranty refill on Ford dime.

Cost very little (~$35) and only takes a few minutes. (I have it down now that I've done it 6 times and have the fumoto. Even the handsfree funnel threads to the Ford valve cover cap port)

... and you know the job is done right. (y)

DIY oil change is the way to go, even without Fumoto and nifty lock-in fill funnel it only takes a few minutes and is a great opportunity to relax and 'scope things out' under the truck.

I'm not a cave man but I am a dinosaur, and even I can do it! ;)

I'm getting too old to slide under and change the oil. I buy my oil and filter and make an appt at a friend's garage. $20 and they put it on the lift. I use their tools and oil drain, 1/2 hr and I'm done. For the record, 27,000 miles and I'm only doing it's 3rd oil change.

If you have the Ford Protect Maintenance Plan you can use it at any Ford dealership or QuickCare. Not all dealerships have a QuickCare onsite. The one I go to moved their QuickCare offsite about 2-3 years ago (it's about a mile away) and converted the QuickCare bldg into a Lincoln showroom.

The issue with the maintenance plans is that they will not let you do something early. It's by the schedule in the manual.

I wish I had one of those rental garage bay with lifts by me. I tried to change it myself (PB) but I was sick at the time and found getting underneath the truck and working on the filter on my back to be a pain. I ended up saying ef it and brought it to Ford for a works oil change for the first one. (11 months and 3100k miles).

I planned to put the Valvomax valve on and then put on the Talons Cat Plate but plans of mice and men took a hit. Now both just sit in the garage waiting for the next shot at an install.

My kingdom for a lift. :)

It's not one of those rental bays, none of them around here. It's an actual business , old school mechanics, two brothers, we grew up together. I make an appt, usually around 7:30 am before the day begins and change my oil. It's a win-win, they get a few dollars and I get to visit with them for a while.
Sorry to hear about being unable to do stuff because of illness. Hope your situation improves.

thats what i thought.
been getting my oil changed every 5000 miles at Ford. I have the maintenance plan. so mine is for so many service visits up until a certain mileage/years of having the truck.

well i believe the service plan is for 7500 mile intervals. when i did my first oil change they asked if i wanted to use the service plan. i did. thats when i was told i could use the plan every 5000 miles but i'd run out of service sooner than the plan had lined out.
so every other service i pay. so i get the 10k mile service free, but pay for the 15k and then my 20k was free....

not sure how it supposed to work but this was explained to me by the service manager
