My NOCO Genius 10 purchased in July of 2023 'died' last month (no lights whatsoever when plugged into known good outlet, both connected to a good battery for charging and not connected to a battery as for power-supply mode). I contacted them via the website support page, explained the situation, promptly got an email with RMA number requesting I return only the bare unit without any clips or other pieces.

I returned it via cheapest UPS ground in a closely fitted box at a cost of about $17.

Today, about 10 days later, FedEx delivered a brand-new unit in the sealed retail box complete with clips and mounting bracket.

Other than having to pay for the return shipping I guess that's pretty good warranty support.

Nice!

I left my Powerboost in generator mode for 9 days straight recently. (providing 24 hour grid power to 2 RV's)

When checking on it under the hood, I put my hands on the Noco5 I have mounted above the BMS box in the engine compartment. It was toasty hot to the touch.

That's a hostile environment for inexpensive electronics like the Noco. I'm amazed they hold up.

Great product support for a good product. Just switched from an old school sears charger to Noco G10 - have used it 3 times to refresh stale batteries and one dead - perfect results and nice to monitor progress across the charge. Even prevented a reverse polarity short out - which I lost a Stanley Fat Max on. Go NoCo if u need one

I sell batteries and all related accessories ... the Noco 10 is a really good unit, it weights about 5 pounds and has serious heat sinks built in along with thicker gauge wiring and clamps. Note how much a 2 amp charger weighs (think something from harbor freight for example) - just a crappy circuit board and simple 18ga soldiered wiring inside. I don't warranty too many Noco because they just don't fail much, but their warranty process is really good - a strong customer focused company!

I made an initial decision to buy a Noco Genius 5 to use on my F150 as a quick disconnect/permanent install as a trickle charger because I don’t drive it much. However, wondering if I should go with Genius 5 or Genius 10? Suggestions?

YMMV but for the price difference I'm happy I got the '10'
  • a bit faster charging for at least part of the cycle
  • unrelated to charging I occasionally use it in the 10A power supply mode for various projects
  • I might choose the smaller '5' if permanently mounting it under the hood
FYI these 'permanent' cables are a lot less $ than the NOCO branded but have been great installed in both of my trucks to make closed-hood charging very quick and easy with the NOCO outside the hood for monitoring (I set it on top of the passenger side tire where it's shielded from rain); I also installed one on my Deere Riding mower and have one 'loose' for power-supply projects. The connector mates perfectly and securely with the NOCO, the weather-cap stays firmly in place when the charger is not connected.

Here's a sweet tip (if you didn't know): When you plug in your maintainer to the negative side of your battery, DO NOT plug it directly to the negative terminal as it bypasses the BMS being able to read the voltage and monitor the state of charge. Instead plug it into the elbow L bracket side, so current can flow through the BMS and it can update the state of charge. In other words, clamp it BEFORE the BMS, not AFTER (i.e. the terminal). As a fail safe, after 8 hours your battery will learn the new state of charge anyways, so it's not a deal breaker if you forget.

Additional Notes: I invested in the NOCO ecosystem earlier this month as well due to the fact I had gone through 2 defective car batteries in a row. Go figure this cheap Walmart Everstart H6 battery is the best one LMAO! I swear these Motorcraft H6 AGMs are junk. Monitoring battery voltage (when you are new like me) can be a bit tricky. I bought a battery tester and kept noticing the voltage was low (around 12.3V resting), but it was because the truck is not asleep yet, so it was still under a load. It also explains why when you plug in your NOCO Genius 10 to the battery terminal and it acts first as if your battery is very low. Let it rest first then charge it for better accuracy. These modern vehicles can take around 30 minutes before everything disspitates and goes to sleep. What you will notice is if you open your car door, and do a reading right away, it may only read 12.2V, but if you let it sit, the voltage will climb to the normal 12.6'ish range (assuming your battery is fully charged). On mine when I start up the truck and enter engineering mode, it will read around 14.7-14.8 when its charging the battery, then it dips to 13.7-13.8 whjle running to indicate its fully charged. On my defective battery it would always spike to 15.2V when charging, and then when it claimed the battery was full (via my tester/maintainer) I would let it sit overnight and the voltage would drop all the way to 11.7V.

Second Tip: Use your physical key from your key fob to CONFIRM you can lock your door and use 8+9 buttons to engage the alarm. If your battery ever dies, your only hope of getting in is pray the battery isn't drained completely, or else you have no choice but to use your physical key. On my 2021 F-150 I shut the door either not enough (or too much) and the physical key failed me. I had to call roadside to get me out the first time. Now as a lesson learned I always validate my physical key works so I can always get access to jump start my starter battery if needed.

Just FYI, an example of the (not NOCO branded) 'permanent' harness installed to ensure proper 'BMS accounting' when charging

I really like my noco10. It’s been great on everything I’ve used it on. It’s so nice that my 16 year old uses it on all his friends pos batteries. Which is unfortunate for when I want to use it.

Anyone with experience using the Victron Blue Smart chargers? I sure like all my other Victron products and the Bluetooth app.

Here's where I attach my ground. Wondering if I am doing it wrong. Seemed logical there.

Thanks for the tips Moon and Buyer

I have a Noco 5 attached with 3M tape to the top of the fuse box under the hood. Wired straight onto the battery in correct way. The plug is tucked under the front part of the fender.

I haven't had to use it much since changing out the battery with a Canadian Tire Motormaster H7. Truck sometimes sits for 2 weeks and fires right up.

Also have 2 x Noco 2's, one for the 2009 quad, finally had to replace the battery last year, and one for zero turn mower.

Great little units. Happy to hear great warranty service if needed.

This is a little sidetracked, but @Buyer2021 I wasn't going to drive for a a few days, so I decided to hook up the NOCO again to fully charge the battery to see if I could resolved that pesky sleep mode issue.

I thought the last stage of the charge was the largest LED going off and on, (Not pulsing) and that shows it has kicked into maintenance mode.

I have the solid green LED right now which I think tells me the battery is 100% or fully charged. One step below maintenance charge. That stage has been this way for about 20 hours. I've had the NOCO on for about 40 hours now.

Should I wait for the maintenance stage or am I good to go to check levels? I haven't been touching the battery at all over the last couple of days, in case that was why it didn't work for me before and now I do agree with you that I might have pulled the NOCO before it was done.

All opinions welcome
