I averaged 23mpg while running 80mph. Did it for hours!

Mind you I had a 20 -25mph tailwind and was sucked up (adaptive cruise) to a enclosed trailer, but lets not bother with reality

Or, I can admit I got 14mpg on the way back running only 74mph into the same wind.

My point? Folks can, and do, report all kinds of things, even with pictures showing the data. Heck, I took pics of the one w/the great number just for laughs. It's often meaningless. Wind just accounted for a 9MPG variance.

True...anything can be claimed...

But it's hard to deny a "This trip"... when I drove from Louisiana to North Carolina in one day...
I average 30 to 37mpgs on the highway..

Can't you alter MPG through engineering mode changes?

Yes you can, but most people do it to get the mpg readout closer to your actual mpg. The dash readout is usually optimistic by about 1 mpg.

The classic way goes back to vw bugs in the 50s and 60s.

When someone became insufferable about his mileage, you started adding gas to his tank. And week to week, you added it.

Once he barged enough about his impossible numbers, you switched to siphoning, starting slowly, and . . .

Hi Tank! Can I purchase your tune? Do you think being a 2wd truck helps? You seem to post the highest mileage routinely on here while being the fastest PB on the forum.

When we were kids 16 or 17 a friend’s uncle said no one could steal gas out of his car. We got five gallons. How much fun can you have?

It’s a truck. If you want mpgs buy a Prius
It can be done. I'm averaging 23 mpg (staying under 70 mph and depending on road condition) while running with a piggy back chip. On back roads (under 60 mph) I can get average 25 mpg.

On the other hand, one can post their complete and honestly maintained long-term mileage log ...

I drive like someone who loves to drive. Sometimes nice and easy but often times with a smile on my face because this truck is so effortlessly fast! I am very familiar with the speed limiter and have been known to launch it now and then.

All that said and 20,000 miles. Here’s my average.

...And that is precisely my point above. When I mention MPG, it is based on long term. I track every gallon put in versus odometer reading on filling. It is of note that for the short term, this truck doesn't like a headwind... and do I discount things on the road when the weather's not so good. But when I mention an MPG, it is from a long term calculation.
