Mixing Full Synthetic Motor Oils

Interesting. Ran into a similar situation on the last OC I did on my '18 2.7EB before selling it - ordered 6 qts of Mobil1 Extended Performance 5w-30 online, the 5 qt. jug was as ordered but the 1 qt bottle was mistakenly the 'high mileage' product (I bit the bullet and bought a qt. of the non-hi-mileage 5w-30). For grins I emailed the Exxon/Mobil1 folks and asked "hey any problem mixing hi-mileage with non-hi-mileage?". Surprisingly I got a reply, they "recommended" not mixing them, although they did have a lot of weasel-words about there probably wouldn't be any problem but..... In my opinion (not fact-based), manufacturers have to do a CYA when asked about mixing hi-mileage/regular oils, the lawyers probably have the last word.

Unless you're a lubrication engineer I doubt the only solid info you'll find on possible problems mixing them will be anecdotal, not quantitative.

Throughout my Navy career, the navy tribologists repeatedly said get good, well formulated oils and don't put in any of this magic in a can stuff. Such things will not add to anything and some can actually hurt the engine. I like to let my oil drain overnoght to get "every last drop" out! Then if I need to change oils there's precious little of the old stuff left. If you have to mix oils on the road... change it out once home to whatever is your long standing brand.

Who changes the oil in the lawn mower?

Not me. Switched to a 56v electric mower and love it. No more getting and storing gas, changing oil, filters, plugs. My lawn takes more than an hour to mow and one charge covers it all... and no fumes to inhale! Not going back.

I buy a new used lawnmower every few years and never pay more than $75. They last 2 - 4 years and someone always pick them up for free.

Also I like to think it's more environmentally conscious than switching to electric.

my mower is a 66” ExMark……used it cost me 2500. I’ve put another 2k into it. Mow 3 acres every week……spring can be every 5 days

Last year I bought what to me is the Jesus of mowers. I have about 3 acres to mow, with a metric shit ton of trees on a bunch of it. I went full retard and bought a Gravely 72" with the 38.5 hp Kawasaki. The warranty info doesn't even mention noncommercial use, it's just assumed that the machine is on a mowing crew. I don't want to screw around with having to work on a mower in the middle of the job. This thing ought to outlast me.

Mine was around $500 when I bought it two years ago. About the same as the gas powered mower I was considering to replace my aging gas mower. But now no more paying for gas, oil, filters and tune up parts. I really like not keeping gas in the garage any longer. Best of all no more exhaust fumes to inhale and much less noise while I push/walk... which at 64 I intend to continue doing for as long as I can. The new electric mower works much better for me and my yard. YMMV

2nd others, don't mix oils. You can just use the oil in the next oil change by buying the rest of it or use it in the mower. Oil formulations of the exact brand can vary by year so I wouldn't even use a 2yr old identical bottle with a new one.

It might seem trivial, but the ratios of the additives are made to work together. If you mix 2 oils you end up with lower ratios based on the mix resulting in a bastardized additive package with none of the ratios it was designed to. It could end up only marginally worse, or much worse. Lubrication engineers say quite specifically "don't do that". Think of it like mixing two completely different recipes. Mixing any ratio of steak chili and potato salad won't yield a better version of either.
