Yeah good points. been running the tune since May and just did the thermostat last weekend.(clarified my post) so that’s the mpg baseline. Worked with them on this so the adjustments were made in the tune for itIn many cases the tune itself increases MPG around 5-10%. Well provided you can keep your foot out of it that is. Dropping the coolant temp with a lower range thermostat typically causes it to run slightly rich unless the tuner specifically accounted for the change in the tune. The reason for that is the engine is trying to hit the programmed operating temp and the colder stat either prevents it from doing that or takes significantly longer to hit the programed operating temp.
@Papp Have you tried running Eco mode with the Livernois tune when you want normal, non-spirited, around-town motoring? FWIW, I've driven one with the 87-89 tune in Normal and Eco. Eco mode is still assertive but is slower to ramp up to WFO type acceleration. As always, YMMV, etc, etc...Have you noticed the shifts are little aggressive driving tame in normal mode? Might be a bit much for my liking.
Yes, eco mode was certainly more tame but the shift firmness was still aggressive. What I did to correct the shifting was reset adaptive and KAM memories then drove less aggressively for 100 miles. Shifts so much better now. I guess I was a little aggressive (excited) on the first go around when I got the tune!@Papp Have you tried running Eco mode with the Livernois tune when you want normal, non-spirited, around-town motoring? Holy Cow....That's gotta be in the 12's easy in the 1/4 mile for a 3 ton truck. Nuts!Just found this on Youtube. 0-60 in 4.48 seconds.
My willpower is fading....
Sub 4s is possible. There's no substitute for getting a tune via actual dyno runs. W/ out it, it's a best guess scenario. Do with your $70k+ truck as you see fit. For best results you also need to blend your fuel (not very prudent for high mileagers and those who can't store an oil drum - a 'safe' calculator can help for 'pump blending' if you have access to e85). The limiting factor for the engine itself is the high pressure fuel pump. That vid creator didn't even have 1k miles on his truck, that's a bit too soon for a factory produced engine to have properly seated everything. It'd be one thing if it was a hand-built blue-printed engine. Off the factory line they're built 'goodnuff'.My willpower is fading....
Yes, what is the best way to launch? hold brake and rev up to see turbo boost spool up? then release brakeWow. Pretty wild to think that these powerboosts can run mid 4's and high 12's with an off the shelf tune and nothing else.
So whats the best way to launch? Just mash both pedals and release? No built-in our tuner-available launch mode?

A good substitution for self-blending fuel is meth injection. Provides both intake air cooling plus an increased octane rating and fuel. The factory ECU is the limiting factor (pre-made meth tune when you're not running it is ill advised). I've not yet seen someone produce a piggyback solution to intercept / modifying timing and wastegate control for these models (might be an issue of module / ECU encryption). I had one on another vehicle but they weren't too good at fooling the ECU (variable cam timing not being taken into account in the 'fooling' process makes ECU mad when crank and cam sensors don't produce the result the ECU knows should be there), as such the MIL was a random guest.
From that same yt vid....
