2021 F-150 Lariat Supercrew Shortbed with 501A
Hi everyone,

Just purchased a 2021 F-150 Lariat 501A with B&O, no sunroof, 44k miles, from a Ford dealer. Not CPO and purchased in NH so no lemon law/implied warranty. Got it home and let it sit while I ordered some rubber mats.

TL;DR: Water leaking from behind dash on driver and passenger side. Possible windshield leak on passenger side if it’s draining on both sides?

Drove it to work and parked it in the rain. Came out and found water droplets on both the driver mat and passenger mat with water leaking down from nearly the top of the dash above pedals on the drivers side and into the glovebox and mat on the passenger side. The carpet and pad from dash to back of bucket seats is saturated. Dealer is taking a look and having their “third party” who fixes leaks look at it.

Since the test drive there was wind noise on the passenger side that they said was the antenna. I removed the antenna and drove today, still have the noise. Taped up the area where the windshield and A-pillar meet top to bottom and wind noise was virtually gone. Is it possible the leak is a bad seal on the A-pillar to windshield (passenger side windshield) leaking down and behind both sides of dash? Thanks for any help!

There is a recall on the windshield not being glued properly.

Mine wasn’t part of the recall but I’m starting to think that’s part of the issue.

Good morning, Lucas. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this leak concern on my end?

You can have the windshield removed and reglued by a competent auto glass shop.

Yikes! The symptoms you describe seem to indicate seal failure/install problem. Make sure they can redo the entire perimeter of that windshield. My buddy had a quirky problem with water accumulating on the floor mats after rain. The repair guy only resealed one side. The problem came back and turns out removing and resealing the entire windshield fixed the leak. Its really hard to see/tell where the fault is in the seal.

I’m thinking this is the issue. I’ll bring it up to the advisor as I’m sure they have a third party glass company. Thanks for all the great replies here.

For anyone following, truck is currently at the dealership. Looks like the previous dealer where it was traded in did a windshield recall 6 weeks ago and that is likely the cause of the leak causing it to run down the front of the windshield and into the dash. Will update with resolution from dealer or Ford.

oof
I just don't get what's up with the quality of techs these days. Was helping someone out who has trans issues / not in warranty and the tech spent 2 days trying to fix his botched IPMA update that didn't need applied / has nothing to do with the trans.

That was an excellent idea and use of painter's tape to help diagnose the issue.

Just wanted to post a final update:

McFarland Ford in Exeter, NH stood behind their product and took care of everything including resealing the windshield which they said was only 50% sealed from the other dealer.

They also treated the carpet for mold and mildew, ran a dehumidifier, and cleaned up the carpets. Offered to fix anything that breaks in the near future as a result of the water damage including electronics.

For anyone coming across this thread later, the water was basically leaking from the side of the windshield, running across the bottom of the windshield frame which is below the visible part of the dash. It was then dripping down the back of the pedal area and across the airbox and other pieces on the passenger side into the floorboard and the glovebox.
