I agree 99.8%!

Except the "consult an expert before accepting the general advice found on a forum".

I've found over the years it IS on a forum that you are likely to find the experience and expertise that can be very difficult to find elsewhere. Especially in the automotive industry where there's a veil between the customer and the real experts and experience. (try to get past the service writer to the technician(s) that are actual experts, if the dealership is fortunate to have one or two)

But I do understand your point and it's a very good one.
You're right, it's why I'm on the forums as well. But it can be very difficult to distinguish who on the forum is actually knowledge in a certain area, vs who confidently believes they are knowledgeable. Especially for members who are only occasional users.

But I've had great success before asking on a forum for recommendations of what members to talk to. I'd still highly recommend seeking an outside opinion before spending a lot of money. That was a hard learned lesson.

My ordeal with FMC is now complete. I just received my 2023 GMC Sierra SLT and it is the perfect truck --- so far.

Well, I can understand Thunderchief, and I for one appreciate the post. I can't say good or bad on Ford trucks yet, as mine is still awaiting shipment. On that point, I don't know if other manufactures are having shipment issues, but I for one am not impressed that my truck has been sitting on the Dearborn lot since November 22, built and ready to ship. My ship date has changed from 3-9 Dec delivery several times, and now it is possible for Jan 7 delivery. I find it funny that the incentives say they are good as long as we take delivery by Jan 3, 2023. Yeah, I know they are suppose to be good, but it's still a bunch of BS. I've called Ford several time, and have been told I was eligible for the Military Appreciation Reward, but ID.me messed that up (not Ford), and then I was told the incentive was not good on the 2023 Platinum. I called and spoke with another individual the next day, was told it was good only on the SuperCrew 2023 Platinum. Duh, that is what I have waiting in the Parking Lot at Dearborn. Hopefully all the frustrations will be cleared up and ID.me will finally update my file and show I am indeed retired military, not just a vet. And hopefully Ford can get it to show up on the Paperwork and get my $500 appreciation applied on the $78,000 truck, which is crazy in it's self. On an up note, I did order through Granger, and the price is only $70,000 other wise I probably would have cancelled and looked elsewhere. Oh yeah, Happy New Year to all of you.

I think a lot of my truck problem was due to sitting in the elements for very long periods of time. With my heat exchanger problem, the truck sat outside in the dealer's back lot for 29-days. No telling how long it sat outside before I got it.

That's what I'm concerned with myself. They just had a huge snow storm and temps way below zero. That can't be good. My truck will be garaged, and well taken care of, but if I get it after the fact, what good would that do. I can only hope for the best. Like I said, I don't know why it takes this long to ship customer orders, or if other manufactures are having the same issues. My last few trucks have been Chevy Silverado's, and basically zero problems. I'm not opposed to switching to another product if need be, time will tell. Thanks again for your post.

Unless they left the hood up then sitting outside for extended periods of time will have minimal to no impact on a vehicle other than possible UV related issues with untreated plastic parts. They engineer these things to handle just about every temperature and environmental extreme on the planet. Pretty much since the first dealerships, cars could sit on lots for months sometimes upwards of a year or more rarely touched before being sold and present zero issues to the buyer. Others could be built, shipped to the dealer and sold within days having hardly sat out in the elements at all and have nothing but issues. It's kind of a crap shoot. Most of us will have little to no issues for the life of the vehicle we purchase, but every now and then someone such as yourself unfortunately just gets a lemon. It happens, and is just all part and parcel with mass production. For every one person who has a bad experience with a specific car/truck there are literally tens of thousands who don't.

Vehicles like aircraft and all similar machines like to be used and don't react well to sitting. Particularly true for newer vehicles where a break-in period is required to bed seals and bearings properly. Moisture from the atmosphere makes its way into everything and getting things up to temp helps evaporate it off.

Most early aircraft, part of the cold shutdown procedures was to dump gasoline into the 'first-in' oil can prior to shutdown to thin out the next start's oil (it was a valve that was activated). The gas would evaporate out of the oil after the engine was started and brought up to temp. It kept it thin for easy circulation on cold start.

I've got 3 vehicles and drive them at least once every 2 weeks to keep things lubed / fresh / and to help any moisture evap. Dealers and even Ford themselves don't give a shit about parking new vehicles for months waiting on parts. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about these lot queens coming up with issues. My PB was in my hands within 4 weeks of coming off the line -- it also happened to be one of the 49 mile QA drive units. No issues to report 7 months and 4.5k miles later. Hope it stays that way. Granted the poor battery logic is still presenting a deep-sleep issue that I'm hoping to rectify via some of the lithium iron phosphate cells I just picked up. Hoping to have a drop-in battery for the PB's soon that more than triples the amount of reserve power the battery system has.

40kWh worth of batteries in the MME
