F150 2021 PB Update. Its been a year since I posted here with the list of issues I've seen with my 2021 Power Boost F150. And almost a year to the date my F150 stranded me in the Sierra Mountains with the failure of the right front IWE system. Just got the truck back yesterday.
I needed to take it to a local independent repair for diagnosis and a $1K repair. ford wont cover that issue CXH-03268443-L9B6N4 1) because I'm now at 80K miles and 2) because I needed to have it repaired at the location where it failed by an independent repair shop in Truckee,CA
So when the drivers side front IWE failed last year at this time I had 50K miles on the truck. The failure code was CO 681-77 and the Putnam Dealership in San Mateo replaced the front drivers side IWE module and I asked about doing the front passenger side since the front drivers side had failed, and they declined and so this year I got the powertrain warning in snowy conditions just before Christmas in Truckee. The code this year was the other side: CO 682-77
In addition to these issues I've also had the rear passenger side door sensor replaced and I still have an intermittent warning that the rear passenger door is ajar when its not. Its annoying, seems to happen more in cold weather and it becomes a real problem because it causes the electronic side step to remain deployed in snowy conditions where it accumulates ice and then when it does attempt to close it jams of course because its full of ice and scrapes the side of the truck up.
The net is that after 80K miles and 3 years on the 2021 F150 PB I wouldn't recommend that vehicle and i haven't had more than a couple trouble free months of just basic operation. To me it seems like the truck suffers from 1st year electrical issues that affect multiple systems some are just annoying others more serious since we've lost AWD in the winter 2 out of the 3 years and when it happens, you're wherever you are at that time in rear wheel drive. This time i was in some real snow and ice with the family of 5, 10PM at night.
Here's the summary:
1) multiple power train malfunction warnings: 12/2023 done on warranty - replace front driver side IWE. 12/2024 - replace front passenger side IWE - won't be covered by ford.
2) the 110 passenger side plug doesn’t always provide power, no fix hard to reproduce
3) there was a louder than usual scraping or whizzing sound when coasting down from 30mph to 10mph sounds like some friction on a rotating part. in 12/2023 replace rear axel with some lose or missing bolt and this is now a recall item I believe - with no permanent fix as far as i know.
5) The speakers in the headrest buzzed and eventually the seat was taken apart and someone at Putnam, San Mateo CA adjusted some wiring and that went away
6) The rear passenger side door frequently has a sensor indicating the door is ajar when its not - had the sensor replaced at one point still happens intermittently and usually in cold weather.
7) The 12V battery had to be replaced with electrical issues caused by the failed battery. Think 'i had to pay for that one myself; cant remember.
8) the self driving system is nice but I believe we were originally promised 3 years of subscription and then it was delayed and we got 2 years and then needed to pay for that. Not sure if I'll renew on the next cycle for that.
All in all, I purchased that truck because it was available at the time and I thought I'd use the generator more than i do, so IDK probably wouldn't do it again.
