Fellas. I installed new BDS control arms to go along with my bilstien 6112 front. Now going over drive ways when steering wheel is at full lock , I’m hearing a metal/ Tin kind of noise. Control arms seem to be tight. Any ideas what is scraping ? Thanks in advance

Did you confirm that the tires are not rubbing on either the front or rear crash bars after installing the new upper control arms?

If something is rubbing, look for witness marks.

Yep found the culprit. Tires are rubbing on the end of the control arm. Here are some pictures. Very lightly , I don’t think it’s a huge problem. On a side note you guys think a very small spacer like 6-8 MM would help ? Thanks again really appreciate your suggestions.

What offset are your wheels? What size tires? I ask this because I’m about to install a pair on Icon delta joints!

The new joint is definitely larger than the factory unit, unless your close to rubbing with your tires in other places besides the joint on the upper control arm I wouldn’t see why the spacers would hurt. They would only help.

Given those mark locations being on the side as well, you need to act on that as it's rubbing more than just at full lock. Take it easy until rectified.

I’d suggest a wheel with at least a 5.75” backspacing. Most aftermarket wheels will be acceptable. A 25 or 0 offset would be good. I have a Method 17x8.5” wheel, 0 offset, 4.75” backspace. Clears my Camburg UCA’s with room to spare

You will need some spacers to push the tires out, but that could cause rubbing in other areas. I believe those wheels have a +34 offset so you would need at least a 9mm spacer (assuming the wheels are 8.5" wide) to get to 5.75" of backspacing. I would go 15mm just to be safe. That would put you at 5.5" of backspacing and shouldn't rub on the upper control arm with a 12.5" wide tire.

Forgive my ignorance here but i don't hear anything when tires are straight/going over bump , even at full droop i dont hear anything , it only happens when turning left or right and going over driveway. But you think it is rubbing all the time ?

Look at your tire and its relation to the UCA, now look at the witness marks. Tried to color it to make what we're seeing more apparent. You can't get those rub marks at full lock right. See where the tire is? See where the additional rub marks are? Sure, it's worse at full lock due to geometry changing through the rack's turning.

The driver's side for instance tends to bow in during turns to the right (at the top) whereas it bows out when turning to the left. When it's at the neutral point it should still have a slight angle in, but not much (see alignment report). As such the only way you can get witness marks as we're seeing is if in fact the tire does rub in some capacity. You'll end up trashing the tire before the UCA and that's the side wall. You don't want anything touching the sidewall. No, it's not a big deal right this second, but it's one of those no-go scenarios.

Honestly the tire is too large for the truck. You've basically got a 315 70 17. You need 35x11.5 to reclaim ~12mm of clearance to that UCA. Look at your tire in the image, it's starting to polish the upper area where it rubs. Not good. As the suspension / bushings loosen up over time it's going to get worse.

Thank you very much for the details Mate. I really appreciate you
