Hang in there. Those in the Early Adopters group have been asked by Ford about any weirdness or issues with Sync after updates, as they're focusing on that. People have complained and it seems they're listening, so they're reaching out after the updates with surveys, to determine if there's issues. My last update was last week. Nothing with screwed up with my Sync. All my presets were still there this last time. Much improved.

I think the vehicle owner should have the option to turn it off, after all it’s your property.
Agreed, but that's not how it works.

whatever.....lol, when i pay 70k for a truck, it should be the way i want, or at least not change from day to day! its not JUST that screens change, but all kinds of things started acting up ever since the first update, glitches, varried and inconsistant.
if your phone screen constantly changed, you wouldnt like it either!
I experience none of those issues with my overly expensive truck. Good luck to you though! lol

that's kinda my point... my truck was perfect, until the updates.
"they" felt it had an issue and needed an update, but i saw no issues on my end.
One problem is, they send out mass update, and it can efeect different vehicles, differently.
the same update can work great on one vehicle, and screw up another!

Really? In other words, when I turn off “automatic updates,” Ford can still send updates to my truck — and these specific updates will succeed in getting into my truck’s computer system?

What’s the difference between updates you receive when your switch is turned on to get them, versus updates that get through when your switch is turned off?

Auto-updates will only prevent updates that require the vehicle to be inhibited while they install from installing. If the OTA is the kind that installs while the vehicle is driving, it will still go through.

Sync 4 is dead anyway, Ford will stop supporting it all together over the next year or two. I have to laugh at the guys who chase the updates. I’ve had my 2023 for a year and not a single thing has changed, why does the word “update” get you guys excited? There is no merit behind it, you guys are jumping up and down for some marketing scheme they sold you with the truck. It’s not creating any meaningful add to your ownership experience. Your frame, axles, engine, seats, yada yada (anything meaningful to an automobile) is unchanged. The silly screen? Ya I’ll pass. I fail to see the value in such things.

I gotcha, thank you.

Well, my early (Job 1) F-150 FX4 super crew still has its automatic updates switch still turned on. But the last update that went through into my truck is Version 4.2.4, from May 2023.

i don’t really care one way or the other, though, because my truck has never had any problems from the OTAs it has received. It still runs and drives like a dream.

I’m keeping my automatic updates turned on, but I really don’t care whether I get any more updates because my truck runs great! So, no worries for me.

Thanks again for your clarification, rugedraw.

I thought an update last year was supposed to fix the changing settings issue. Yeah after every update I have to reset my gauges and radio channel. small hassle, but seems like they could do something to save the settings.

After each OTA update, Ford has screwed up something with/on my SYNC4 screen and/or with the truck itself.
So... i've turned off the automatic updates.
this last one, reset everything, deleted all my recent and saved NAV destinations, and now the 12" screen defaults to the SETTINGS screen, instead of staying on the last screen, when the truck was shut off.

Every update has changed and/or screwed up something.
Ford software engineers.. if you can do it right... dont do it at all!

i'm ready to cash it in, and buy a late 60s or early 70s F100, F150 or 250 hi-boy with manual everything! im done with the computerized EVERYTHING!
I certainly understand your frustration as I work in IT. PCs, MacBooks, Linux, Android, etc. are under constant updates mainly due to malware mitigation and security. It's difficult to explain to users how important maintenance updates are.

I wish they would give us a choice in the updates. Like have them show up on our Ford Pass first and maybe have a rating on them as critical or optional type of thing. And then we could pick and choose what WE want to install or upgrade.

I thought my audio sounded fine before this "upgrade" and not sure that I would have chosen to have my audio refined as they put it?!

I am not looking forward to my warranty ending on November 1st, as the amount of time my truck has been in the shop in the last month just for updates that have failed or not worked to get straightened out. I was finally able to get a new battery as it was only at 66% charge after a 10 hour drive and it would constantly go into battery save mode.

My old 2012 never had these sort of issues that I am seeing with this 2021. Really starting to think I should have bought a low mileage used 2015-2020!

It doesn't work that way. Certain updates have to be installed in a certain order. So if you say "no" to a particular update, it will bottleneck future updates from ever becoming available to you.

Hence the critical part! But they could sure write things to be optional as well!

But apparently they thought others and my audio needed to be refined?!

A PCM or ABS or CCM or..... module update has nothing to do with Sync or gadgets or whizbang.

Those updates address drivability improvements or perhaps addressing known issues.

As a previous contributor pointed out, I'm driving a nicer performing truck today than the one I took delivery of 2 years ago.

The complaints regarding OTA snafus are legitimate. I get it. But I'm not willing to throw the baby out with the........ :)

My truck is the newest, nicest, most capable, most annoying vehicle I've ever owned. If you take away Car Play/Android Auto then Sync 4 is a worse version of MyFordTouch
