Hello All,

I have a 2021 F150 Lariat 5.0 with about 64k miles. I have noticed that the HVAC fan speed is significantly lower than it was when the vehicle was newer. Even on Auto mode, it will not maintain or reach set temperature. Setting fan speed to 7 manually there is not much air coming out at all and basically no air coming out in the back. It has a brand new cabin air filter installed. There is not much help online regarding this topic or I am terrible at searching for this issue. Is there a fan speed controller or resistor that needs to be replaced? I have disconnected the battery for 30 minutes hoping it was a programming issue and that did not resolve the issue.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Randy

UPDTAE: PROBLEM WAS SOLVED -->>> Incorrect Aftermarket Cabin Airfilter - DO NOT USE HEPPA OR CARBON AIR FILTERS, RESTRICTS AIR FLOW.

Which cabin air filter did you install?
Was the issue occurring before the new cabin air filter was installed?

I have always used an O'riellys store brand carbon filter, the issue has been independent of any filter change period. There is a huge difference in volume decibel level of the turbulent air. You know when its on high sounds like a hurricane. Not even close anymore.

some filters are more restrictive of the air flow. You may remove the filter and see if its back to normal.

Pull the cabin filter out and see if airflow improves. If it does then either they changed the cabin filter construction or you got one that is particularly restrictive. Aside form that the blend door might have gotten stuck or motor failed. Last thing I can think of is there being an issue with the blower motor or switch circuit. Ford did have issues with the blend door motor failing in the 21-22's. Not an easy/cheap fix since I'm fairly sure the dash has to be pulled to replace it.

Thanks Bret,

Would the blend door have anything to do with the blower not reaching correct speed? It doesnt sound like its reaching the correct RPM when set on 'HIGH'

I have an issue on my MY23 Lariat were the no air will come out of the vents when running the A/C and I need to shut the A/C off for about ten minutes before I get air out of the vents again. I can select floor, vents, defrost, and change fan speed with no change. FWIW, my brothers MY23 STX has the same issue. I live in Maine and our A/C season is short so I'm having issues making fail at the dealer.

Hello Tall Tail,

You were spot on. I was using a very restrictive hepa charcoal filter from oriellys. I had NO IDEA. The issue is now corrected. Thanks so much for your help. Why do they even sell this trash...

Sure thing. The blend door wouldn't impact the blower speed. Only where airflow is directed. Try taking the cabin filter out and replace the cover plate then see if it sounds like it's spinning faster.

When my cowl drain glogged up and water flooded back into the cab it soaked the filter blocking airflow the blower did sound like it was spinning much slower even on max speed.

My '21 had the air inlet door actuator fail and had to be replaced. It was reporting a code that it was not working.
