So I sid my first oil change on my 2022. For clarity this was MY first cahnge. I bouhgt used and the dealership did it before delivery.

Didn't see a need to raise the truck so it was sitting on the driveway which is level.

I drained the pan for quite a while. Just let it go till an occasional drip, When I pulle dthe filter there was very little oil that ran out.

Is this because the filter is horizontal and drains most of it's oil down through the pan?

After reading stories of oil going everywhere I was kind of suprised.

The oil filter has a anti-drain back valve. It is essentially a seal that traps quite a bit of the oil in the filter. None of the oil in the oil filter will drain into the oil pan of the engine.

When I do oil changes, I unscrew the filter a few turns, let it drain down the little purpose built spout (the back hole, not the front sliding board), wait for that to slow to drops, then unscrew filter rest of way and tilt it up while removing to avoid a mess. Between what goes down the spout and what I dump out of the filter, it's probably half a cup.
