Lots of very justified grief about long waits, but recalls, stuff in that other dealers just can't seem to correct, this or that cupholder light that went away and more, but for those of us that came from a Gen13 or even Gen12, what did Ford improve. In the recent past I've had a 2001, 2006, 2012 and a 2020. Compared to the 2020:

1)The interior is just generally better quality materials. The 2020 armrest felt like a brick and the 2022 at least is better. The styling is just better as well.

2) Placement of the Problem Backup knobs and trailer brake control is much better, easier to see and reach.

3) Obviously the bigger dash and infotainment screens but all they really did was catch up to the norm

4) The upper glove box or as I call it "the pantry", it's where I always have a stash of nuts, protein bars and Jerry.

5) The just slightly bigger but immensely more useful "map pockets" on the console side/foot well.

6) Haven't driven a ton in bad weather but the higher placement of the rear view camera seems to stay clean longer.

I know there are lots related to the PowerPoint but I passed on getting that. And Blue Cruise...nice but sort of just more keeping up with the times.

I was never a fan of the previous generation’s side mirrors. Too square.

Compared to the 2015 Lariat I had in no particular order:
  1. It looks bad ass.
  2. Android Auto has been solid, not perfect, but I've never had it before.
  3. LED lighting upgrades (headlamps, taillights, etc) are amazing.
  4. I haven't used the zone lighting but seems like a cool feature for one day.
  5. B&O standard audio is better (works for my needs).
  6. Useful tailgate features like slow release & clamp pockets (I didn't opt for utility gates)
  7. AC seats work far better without the hot spots I experienced in the older version.
  8. Seats are generally more comfortable.
  9. More convenient bottle holders in the right places, lockable storage below middle front seat (I have the bench).
  10. USB-C over just USB 2.0
  11. So far the electronics, features, and functionality are just nicer.
  12. Map pockets are great, but also actually hold a water bottle well, too.
  13. Upper glove box is useful.
  14. Backup camera & overhead hitch view are insanely more useful for backing & hitching.
  15. 360 camera is amazing and useful for tight spots
  16. FordPass: remote starting, monitoring ProPower, etc, etc. Sure, the app could use some upgrades, but it's all comes w/ the truck as part of what you pay for.
  17. The wife loves it, its comfort, features, and more.
  18. PowerBoost:
    1. Way better gas mileage anywhere (~22-26 not towing) but interstate speeds (21-22).
    2. All the acceleration & power I'd ever need
    3. I can power my freaking RV, my house, and having a remote generator functionality with clean power, no worrying about lugging gas, draining carbs, etc etc.
    4. Parking w/o gas engine running, AC blasting, music going for long stretches is just heaven.
Knock on wood, hopefully I don't encounter some of the horror stories I've heard here on the forum, but so far it's met and exceeded 99% of my expectations.

I came from a 2018 STX I got in March of ‘18 to a 2021 Lariat I got in a June of ‘21, so I don’t have much of a comparison.

So far though, I prefer the layout of everything, controls-wise, in the new one.
One thing I can say, I upgraded to a Platinum steering wheel in the ‘18, but much prefer the Lariat steering wheel. The seats feel more comfortable in the Gen14, but don’t know if that’s trim specific or what. I did have some Clazzio leather seat covers in the ‘18 that had extra padding, but even with that these feel more comfortable.

Other than that, I can’t speak too much to stuff like heated/cooled seats, B&O vs Sony etc.

One thing I hated in my STX was the mirrors with the little blind spot mirror, so I’m glad not to have that anymore as it was more of a distraction to me.

2022 F150 KingRanch Powerboost
I absolutely loved the 2018 F150 and the second generation of the 3.5 Ecoboost. I purchased it in KingRanch livery and then proceeded to treat it as though it was my bucket-list truck. I had turned 60 at the time and honestly felt that it was low risk to make modifications to because I was keeping it for many years. Perhaps my last truck.

So I did.
I went all out. Had it tuned to a very respectable but "polished" performance increase. Splurged on huge Brembo brakes and Fox 2.5 with DSC on all 4 corners. Gutted the interior to completely sound deaden the truck and then upgraded the entertainment system to..... Well, bucket list, as I stated.

And then?

After just short of 4 years, the world had turned upside down. Covid, the supply chain fiasco, depleted inventory and insane elevated value of used trucks...... I visited the dealership in order to purchase a fleet XL Powerboost for the company. It was heck to find one but I ran into a Platinum Powerboost that I could at least touch and get a good look at while procuring the fleet truck.

I was a bit stunned at just how much Ford had improved the next generation trucks. I had naively considered them a mild refresh and was completely unaware of just how wrong that assessment was. (I believe Ford states that they changed 76(?)% of the truck.

When the dealership that I had done business with for more than 20 years told me what they would give me for my 2018 I was in disbelief. And that price was after returning the truck to OEM and me getting all my upgrades returned!

I'm only one person with one person's opinion, but my 2022 KingRanch Powerboost (yea, I even traded that Platinum in after ordering a KingRanch) is superior to my 2018 KingRanch in every conceivable comparison. Especially OEM to OEM. In no way am I disparaging the 2018 F150. It was a gem and I never had a complaint. But this current truck is a leap forward.

Full disclosure : I have been fortunate to have had 2 Gen14 Powerboosts, and 3 if you include the 2021 XL fleet Powerboost that the company still has, and not one of the 3 have ever visited the dealership once. Completely trouble free. However I also must admit that I have FDRS license and so I never considered using the dealership to address any of the OTA software update issues that are widespread, including both 2021 Powerboosts that I have purchased.

The 2022, of course, was delivered completely up to date and still is up to date.

Fantastic trucks. Incredibly clever engineering in the Powerboost. I don't know how long Ford will have this kind of lead on the competition, but I'm watching and it doesn't look like anyone has caught them yet. And that's kinda remarkable considering both Toyota and GM just finished making their response moves.

1. YES!
2. Hate it. I'd rather just use my phone.
3. Don't have LED?
4. Used it, it's awesome! I keep wondering WHY I have my flashlight on.
5. Don't have it. Impressed with STD audio quality.
6. ?
7. Don't have it (N/A in the RCSB)
8. Too damn comfortable. (I hate having to drive my car now)
9. Got the "work surface" (BIG mistake!)
10. Had NO IDEA "WHY" I would need that until I got my new iPhone. (Came with a USB-C)
11. Yes.
12. ?
13. Very!
14. Love it! (Use it A LOT!)
15. Video quality could be better but I'm getting used to watching the screen instead of the mirrors. Pretty cool!
16. Cab is nice & toasty warm when I get in on cold mornings.
17. Wife hates it! Refuses to drive it!!?
18. N/A on the RCSB but the 5.0 is a neck snapping monster!

Thanks for the post!!!

I’m coming from a 2010 XL with zero options. while that truck served me well I wanted some options. My 21 XLT is an upgrade where it counts. It is much quieter. More comfortable. Handles on the highway like a dream. I like the safety features in co-pilot assist and the 360 camera has kept the curb rash off my wheels.

Never seen a tow truck up close till i bought this 2021 Plat truck. Definitely need to change the logo from FORD TOUGH to Tough to keep out of the shop! They had the balls to even put it in my onscreen welcome message....

Love the styling of the interior
Love the Co-Pilot 360 and Cameras (though this might have been an option in 2020?)
Love the 8 inch in Dash Cluster
Love the 12 inch Sync 4 system
Love that they made a 302A package incorporating a lot of the stuff you want on a XLT but used to only be able to get on a Lariat
Love the LED lighting (headlights and everything else)

I'm sure I can find more. I've been lucky enough to be on my 3rd truck. 2018 (2.7 eb), 2020 (5.0 v8), and 2022 (3.5 eb). I prefer the ecoboost engines, but I do tow a fair amount, and it just feels so much smoother than my v8 ever did. At idle my v8 sounded terrible, and after 2 years (actually a year and a half) I was tired of listening to it.

Refreshing to read that not everyone is just bitching about this or that.
Isn't it?
You have to remind yourself the main reasons that draws someone to a forum like this. Although many members are enthusiasts and want to share their passion with others, the forum is where you go to either get help, rant, or both.

But you shouldn't ignore the fact that there are now well beyond 1,000,000 Gen14 F150's

So if every member of the forum had issues with their truck, it'd still represent a fraction of 1% of the trucks on the road. :)

I will be keeping the 2005 Gen 11 5.4l V8 that has been a trusty steed since new (I live alone in a remote rural area so will always have a backup vehicle because 'stuff happens'). Having said that the advances and fantastic improvements with my Gen 14 are so many that I wouldn't even know where to start a comparison. I will offer that SYNC4 and especially the voice command interface is far superior to the counterparts in the 'modern' 2019 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E it replaced.

Suffice to say the Gen 14 2022 Lariat 500A SCAB 4x4 has already established it's a superb vehicle for me, I'm absolutely loving everything about it, and wanting nothing more. I've every confident expectation it'll be another 17+ year trusted companion just as my Gen 11 has been (IME you treat 'em right and they'll treat you right, for a very long time ;) ).

I'll not miss an opportunity to mention that the deal and experience of buying a Gen 14 from Granger Ford was 'icing on the cake' - that certainly contributes to my great feelings about this truck.

It nice to see someone else who keeps their truck for years. My 2009 Lariat has 241k and is still going strong. I can’t wait till my Platinum gets here. I’m ready for an update.
