Is anyone out there with 100k miles with a power boost? I currently have about 42k and I have only had it for about 2 years. I started thinking about warranties ending at 60k miles/ 3 years. I had both rear axle shafts replaced last year and now it seems my rear axle is leaking as there is some oil all over my passenger back wheel and tire. Seems to be oozing out somewhere from a seal or something and slinging everywhere. I have it set up to go in when I get some hail damage fixed. Also had a tail light with condensation in it and my steps are just now needing to be lubricated. Seems like I’ve have a good bit of issues with a seemingly new(ish) truck. Has anyone put 100k on one yet with no issues? Kinda worried these issues will continue and I’ll run out of warranties even if I can get an extended warranty.

It is new for 2021. Highest mileage I've seen was a youtuber dumping his at maybe 60k with few or no problems to get a heavier duty tow vehicle. He had great things to say about his time with it. For the first time since I've bought vehicles in The last 21 years I am thinking an extended warranty is in order. My '21 has not stranded me in a year and 13,400. But it did get stuck at a dealer for 15 days over corrupted software after something went wrong on the tailgate opening recall.

The electronics worry me and this heat exchanger issue worries me as I don't see word of an updated part yet. I've seen that play out in other makes. Sometime unless there's a successful lawsuit people just keep getting the exact same weak replacement part through most of a design cycle while the engineers try to figure out what to do. After your warranty is up they're on you unless you fight hard enough.

And some People outside their 3/36 are reporting they're being told they're SOL on coverage on the heat exchanger. Everybody swears it's supposed to fall under emissions, hybrid system or powertrain but we're seeing people dealing with it past 36k being told to expect the bill.

For over 20 years I have had true bumper to bumper GEICO Mechanical breakdown insurance for 7/100 on all my new vehicles. It is baked into my premium so I am probably going to keep it and also buy Premium care for 8/100 to get rental reimbursement and have a couple options for anything that happens outside 36k. Next time my truck needs am extended shop visit my dealer's one crappy Ford EScape loaner may not be available.

If I did not do that I'm honestly not sure I'd feel really comfortable keeping the thing longer than about 5 years. I love the features and performance and really want to keep it for 10-plus.

ya I’ve seen a lot of people talk about electrical glitches and failures on multiple systems on these trucks. To be fair though it is a pretty complicated and advanced leap from 2020 to 21 from what I understand. Plus with more advanced vehicles comes more problems unfortunately. I’ve dodged the electrical problems thankfully but it’s the drivetrain I’m dealing with instead, not sure which ones worse.

That being said I absolutely love my truck but it’s just worrisome to think that by 4 years I’ll probably have 100k miles on it and be out of all my warranties and I’ve been having issues since 20k miles. Im definitely going to try and get the extended warranty. That at least was baked into my mind from my dad long ago so I’d have that extra security. To me 100k miles sounds like an old truck that needs to be traded in as that’s when problems start to show up.

I am having the same concerns with warranty coverage. I have a little over 35K on mine right now and for the most part it has been a reliable truck. I have had both axles replaced last year and the only other issue I have had is the tow mirrors which makes noises when they open and close. They have replaced them twice and they still squeal.

I do have an aftermarket warranty but lately been wondering if I need to get the ford one as well. It just seems like there is so much that could go wrong on these newer trucks, and nothing is cheap to fix on it.

My own perspective having taken a 2016 3.5 Ecoboost from 0 to 175k miles - this truck cost me ~ $5k in maintenance up to 100k miles and then over $10k between 100k and 150k - big bills to replace exhaust manifold, turbocharger, timing chain leak (and guides, cam phaser etc.). So, the argument that you should get a new truck at 100k miles (ish) is often made ... but people ignore the depreciation hit on a new truck, which would have far outweighed the $10k in maintenance! Existing truck maybe lost a few thousand dollars going from 100k to 150k. New truck would have lost $20k plus going from new to 50k miles ....

Currently I have a 2021 Powerboost that is at 72k miles. I have the Ford extended warranty to 125k miles. After that I may trade in on a new truck, but I'll be balancing an expectation of higher maintenance costs and hassle of potential downtime w/the depreciation hit on a new truck.

Have to consider ... is it purely financial? Then, probably run the truck to 200k plus and budget for "surprise" bills. Is it absolute reliability? Then, I wouldn't go much past 125k-150k. Do you just get bored and want a new truck :)

I have just under 80K on my 21 PB. I opted to not go with any type of extended warranty, and wouldn't you know it, it's in the shop with a check engine light condition.

You both have more mileage than I’ve seen on these 21 trucks before so it’s good to know I’m not the only person out here driving my truck into the ground lmao. I’m getting an extended warranty no question, just still wondering if it’s worth keeping after 80k-100k miles. This is technically my first vehicle since the last was a hand me down so I don’t really want to get rid of it any time soon but I don’t want to contend with rear axle issues every year plus any other issues like the heat exchanger or god forbid any electrical issues that I might start having. The last thing I need is for those kind of problems to arise after 60k miles and ford not cover the cost of the repair. That being said the 23s seem to have their own issues also. Not really sure what I’ll do over the next 40k-60k miles ?.

IWE issues on driver side , four wheel drive leaking replace the seal at 95,000 miles . The seal is about $30 dodars and IWE about $150 .Also, I got rear axle bolt in floating axel broken. Funny enough I just popped the cap on my leaky rear axle to see this…..

hoping they cover a second repair within a year.

The exhaust heat exchanger did get new part numbers. Of course we don't know exactly what was changed regarding, but it's been revised in some manner.
Also Ford made available separately the tubes that are the source of the leak, therefore no longer requiring the replacement of the whole mid-pipe/exchanger. The tubes are $5 each.

I've not read yet about Ford not treating the exhaust heat exchanger as a warranty covered issue. That would be really unfortunate.

I don't have a high mileage Powerboost, but Collectively I have had 3 Powerboost trucks totalling ~60,000 miles. None of them have needed any warranty service of any kind.

I don't think these things are exactly fragile. There are a finite number of issues that have now revealed themselves on this forum. Statistically I am either just lucky, or the sample of 3 Powerboost (21,21,22) is indicative that the vast majority of these trucks are not lemons, so to speak? :)

Ya know... were I a service manager at a dealership... I'd get one or two techs and train them up on the myriad plugs around the truck. Then I'd task them with going thru every new, to be delivered, truck and inspect each and every plug and make sure they were fully seated. While inspecting plugs look carefully for seals that appear to be somehow improperly sealed, or bulging or cut.

it’s just concerning that this is now my second axle repair in less than a year. It’s possible that the seal was not replaced or was pinched or something but that has nothing to do with the bolt. Either way the bolt is still broken again and the dealer said they can get the bolt but the axle assembly is on back order. Ford STILL owes me $445.05 in reimbursement from my previous bolt replacement the first time around so I don’t to pay for that temporary fix again until they can get a new axle assembly just so they can leave me high and dry me again.

Got my PB late 21 now has 50k and finally got a commuter to keep the miles off the truck around 6-700/week I do have the 150k extended warranty covering just about every major item, which I have had nearly no issues so far that didn’t go away, yet the air dam gets tucked in the middle, been a great truck so far and just a blast to drive, no axle issues yet either… plan to get well over 200k just not in 5 years at the rate I’m going, hence the commuter buy, which has to equally enjoyable to drive.
