2024 F150 STX
Hi All,

We have a 2024 F150 STX. In early June the truck received an OTA update (the update is listed as 06/03/2025 - Priority Update - Vehicle Systems) and shortly thereafter the GPS stopped working. On screen the map showed a GPS symbol with circle and cross through it.

Dealership said the APIM/GPS module needed replacing and ordered a new one. Replaced the module and still couldn't get the GPS to work. Same symbol, but this time the unit thought it was in Michigan. Took it in a second time, and they were able to briefly get it to work - enough to update the position to the dealership, but still the same issue. They said they were reaching out to Ford for a new software procedure and update.

On the third visit, they attempted the procedure provided by Ford, and somewhere during the update it managed to kill all displays in the vehicle, no infortainment or digital dash. They kept the vehicle over the weekend until today, where they were able to restore functionality, but the GPS issue still persists. They believe the module is faulty and want to replace it again.

Thing is, after some reading here, it appears others have had similar issues on 2021 and similar vehicles and I'm starting to wonder if it's a software issue and not hardware. We haven't received any logs from the dealership as to what they've tried, and I'm just wondering if there is anything else we can try, or should we give FORScan a shot following what others have posted in the past (https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/no-gps-signal-after-apim-update.17569/page-3)

Message me the VIN, but I am willing to bet the OTA broke TRON on your truck. If that's the case, FORScan cannot fix it. Only FDRS can re-authorize the TRON encryption on 2024-2025 trucks.

Hey thank you so much! I’ll shoot you a DM!
Got your message, but due to whatever is going on with your truck, is not reporting any data to the cloud even though the modem appears to be activated. I can't see any codes it may be reporting. You mentioned FORScan.....do you have it? If so, can you plug in and post any codes it may be reporting? Particularly any APIM, GWM and TCU codes?

Hey thank you! That’s weird, possibly due to me being in Canada at all?

I’ve got a OBDLink EX arriving tomorrow so I should hopefully be able to run a report in the next day or two.

No, the country code in your TCU is correct for Canada and Ford's connected services work the same way there as they do here. Unless you have data sharing turned off, I should be able to see something on my side, but I can't see anything at all. If TRON is not working properly, it will affect certain connected features from working, but without seeing what the truck is complaining about, I can't really help. Even with the codes, I may not be able to offer you any helpful insight, but without them, we are working in the dark.

Just let us know what pops up when the you the cable.

Thank you so much for your insights, I really appreciate it and all the awesome help on the forums here!

I’ll report back as soon as I can get FORScan hooked up and reading!

Just discovered that one of the techs left a USB key in the truck. It contains a mytrucksVIN_FordSoftwareManifest.der file along with a FordSoftwareUpdates directory with 5 VBF files. Are these of any use at all?

That is an update packet for either the APIM, GWM or TCU. If that update already installed when they were working on your truck, then it is of no use to you.

Ok, so you have some obvious codes between the TCU and GWM. The easiest thing to check is to make sure all the connection on the TCU are seated properly. The TCU is located behind the backrest of the back seat on the passenger side behind the trim pieces. Fold down the seat to expose this. Remove the pins circled in red to be able to pull the trim piece down and the TCU is under that bulge circled in green.

Ford F-150 Help! 1757523086747-qu

TCU looks like this. Check that all three of those connections are properly seated in their location.

Ford F-150 Help! 1757523206266-4c

Edit: Which module are the wanting to replace? It could also be a bad TCU or GWM. Unfortunately, without FDRS, I can no longer see what the dealer did (or tried to do) which makes things more difficult to diagnose remotely, but these codes in particular COULD mean a bad module:

===TCU DTC U3000:49-49===
Code: U3000 - Control Module

Additional Fault Symptom :)49):
- Internal Electronic Failure

===GWM DTC U2402:0A-48===
Code: U2402 - Ethernet Failure With Telematic Control Unit Module (TCU)

Additional Fault Symptom :)0A):
- General Electrical Failures - 2

Hello Fellow 150 PB owners,
I too have same issues as MiniMadRyan on my '23 Lariat PB with 26000 mi.My truck has been at the dealership for 2.5 months with no resolution. They've replaced the APIM 3 times but still no luck. They also replaced PCM but that didn't help. Ford Engineering and the dealership master tech have been trying to figure this out. I've posted my delima awhile back.This all started when I took my truck for a dead battery and was told there was a software update. That's when my nightmare began. I love my truck and everything was running perfectly fine until they did the update.Lost gps, screen went black and started flickering. I'm just about ready to request a buyback.

wow this is scary stuff. After just picking up a used 2022 scares me that these ota's could brick my truck at some point down the line. Good luck to the op and awesome of Rugedraw for trying to help!

Wow. I don't know why it is so complicated for them to figure this stuff out. If the issues started right after an update was done by the dealer, it should not be that difficult for them to backtrack to what caused it.
