I didn’t try shifting with the truck on. I had the driveshaft already stabbed and didn’t want to shift it not connected to the rear.

Thanks for all the info on this. I did this, and did not notice a huge difference. I did notice the u-joints were pretty tight. They don’t have play, but don’t move easily.

Has anyone replaced their one piece drive shaft u-joints? I want to do mine, but I don’t want to buy the motorcraft $150 “kit” that is the same un-greaseable crap that came on it. Ford parts shows ML3Z-4635-AA for my VIN. When I put that number in Rock Auto it comes up with Moog 249C.

I'm late to the party, but make sure you use blue locktite on the bolts and if you want to be even more careful, use new bolts plus blue locktite.
