Nothing surprising. We just replaced a Tahoe PPV 5.3 motor at work due to excessive oil consumption and some sort of (don't quote me on this) lifter failure on one of the cylinders as a result of oil starvation. We're about a quart every 1000 km at a minimum.

GM has told us the consumption rate is normal and to top it off. The Tahoe now rides around with a box of 0w20 bottles in the back.

I thought the 2.7 Turbomax was dumb when it came out but it seems to be the least problematic engine right now in their truck lineup.

They've been running the exact same motors for like 11 years now, and versions of them for another 15 before that, how have they not figured this shit out yet?
They have no other option to meet the EPA MPG requirements without redesigning a completely new engine, they just invested billions in the next Gen V8 engine so its likely that engine will see a completely new AFM/DOD system.

AFM/DOD is the biggest scam ever. When I had my 2018 6.2 I turned off AFM and my mpg didn’t change. Maybe on some flat highway you may see a little gain but in the real world where roads aren’t flat I makes no difference. Just a problem waiting to happen with one of the lifters. It is amazing since 2007 GM can’t fix there problems with AFM. The 1999-2006 GM V8’S lasted forever.

DOHC seems like the way to go to get a reliable variable displacement system, no common issues with the Ford 5.0L now five years into the implementation. GM forums are littered with new motor failures.

Scary. Hopefully present owners get some relief at least and prospective buyers educate themselves before signing.

New to this forum but have been reading in the background for months. This post is why I got an F150 w/5.0

I had ‘23 GMC Sierra AT4 w/6.2…I bought it used with 13k in Feb last year, first motor went out in April (spun main rod bearing), then the transmission needed rebuilt, then I got a brand new 6.2…later than summer, another spun main rod bearing…I traded it in to a ford dealership. It’s still currently sitting at the Chevy dealership waiting on a 6.2 which is backordered. GM refused to buy it back, they knew what was going on. They gave me a large chunk of cash to go away after months of back and forth. Good riddance to that nightmare truck.
