I have always planned on not using the gas until the tank was empty or that the fuel gauge was accurate. I have often seen the gauge move less at the first quarter of the fuel tank than at the last quarter. With a 36 gallon fuel tank I assume that I have 33-34 gallons of gas available for the engine.
Who really wants to get stranded on the side of the road because the vehicle ran out of gas? My choices in a new truck in 2022 were the Ram 1500 or the F-150 as they were the only ones for which there was a large gas tank option. What I found strange is that the purchasing people at the dealerships would order trucks with the max tow package and not upgrade to the larger tank on their factory order. I ended up with a crew cab which I did not want with its greater turning radius, but it was the only truck with the locking rear differential and the 36-gallon gas tank available on dealers' lots in the state.
