I think you'll be good. You'll just want to cut enough of the bedrail plastic cover back to have the bull ring rest completely on the metal upper surface of the front pockets. This should be flush and in the same plane as the rear pockets. The first pic in my July 5 post should help describe what I mean.

I installed the front and rear BullRings over the weekend. I thought I could file down the raised trim on top of the bedrail but that didn't work b/c there is a piece of plastic under the raised trim that gets in the way. I just installed the BullRing on top and put some plastic spacers under it rather than installing it flush. It doesn't look as nice as the rears but it doesn't look horrible.

Just got the bit from Bullring today, ordered it off Amazon. My tie-downs are coming tomorrow. The bit itself is much smaller than it looks in the pictures online. If anyone wants to borrow it after I'm done, let me know.

I already ordered one, but thanks for the offer!

For anyone that has uncovered the front pockets, do these measurements look correct? From what I can see, it looks good, but having confirmation would be appreciated before I put a hole in the top plastic rail. It looks like the middle on the front hole is right at the edge of the raised portion.

I drilled the holes tonight, but didn't fully open them up because I ran out of daylight. The measurements above do not get you in the center of the front stake pockets, but you are still in them at least. The center is about ¾" to the rear.

I plan to use the bit to open up the holes, then center the rear pocket covers over the opening and trace around them. I'll then use either a utility knife or my oscillating cutter to take more of the plastic rail off so my tie downs sit flush (more or less).

I hate posting after myself again, but I got my stake pocket tie downs installed tonight. First, the router bit stated it needs to be exposed 13/16". When I went out to go cut the first hole, I checked and the bit would have barely been cutting anything. I exposed it to 15/16" and it got almost everything. Another 1/32" probably would have helped, but it wasn't necessary.

Using the covers from the rear holes, I scribed where to cut with a straight pick from a pick set. Then I used a utility knife to cut where I marked. I needed to do a little trimming, but once you're through, it's pretty easy to cut. I plan on getting something to seal around it and clean up the look of the edges, but it turned out really well I think.

Thanks for your posts! I'm going to be attempting this as well in the next couple of days and your post will be extremely helpful. I purchased the older model Bull Rings that sit over the plastic rather than flush. Hoping those will cover my cuts...

Reviving an old thread…. Were the front Bull Ring tie downs the same as the rears? The Amazon site shows several different ones and I want to make sure and order the right ones for a 2022 5’ bed.
