Are y'all really paying $20 per quart for oil changes? I just got off the phone with my local dealership and after verifying how much Full Synthetic 5W50 is and was quoted around $20 per quart.

Called my local O'Reilly's and the same exact oil is half that cost. That's basically getting the filter free and paying myself for the work.

I change the oil myself. Pennzoil Platinum synthetic, much better oil than anything Ford is filling the pan with at the dealership

Walmart sells Motorcraft oil for less than that. Plus many other oils in full synthetic that are superior.
Can almost guarantee that the dealer isn't using Motorcraft oil anyway for the oil change bay. Local dealer uses Valvoline and another uses Pennzoil. It will just list the weight on your bill not the brand.

If you do your own oil changes, remember to save the receipt for the oil and filter and document the date and mileage. What works best for me is to get a small spiral notebook (or similar) and use one page for each maintenance repair. Tape the receipt to the page. The other option of course would be to scan it into your computer etc. If you need warranty repairs, they may ask you to produce the proof of maintenance. I'm a former dealership service manager (different brand), and I never asked for this documentation unless the car/truck was obviously abused or neglected.

Not really sure where you're taking $20 per quart of oil.
My dealer charges (I just called to ask) about $60 for an oil change on 5.0 that requires 7.75 quarts of oil (they put 8 quarts, we're not getting into this argument now).
I think he's wrong and it is more like $70 or $80. I think last time I paid about $90 including tire rotation.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that oil change alone - including oil filter of course - is $100 at the dealer. That's about $12.91 per quart of oil.
You said that the same oil costs half of the $20 at O'Reilly's (don't know, I take your word for it and it makes sense that it is cheaper), that's $70.75 for the oil alone based on your quoted cost and amount of oil needed.
I don't know about you, but $29.25 for them to do the work and clean all the spillage is more than worth it to me. Not to mention, collect the old oil and dispose of it somewhere (takes time and effort and gas burning as well).
If Ford engineers would have designed a more "friendly" way of changing the oil - that is, avoid spilling everywhere - I may have done it myself. But the way it is for $30 labor? It is a no brainer in my book.

Summerville Ford service department quoted me after talking to their parts department @ $20 per quart for 5W50. I didn't get quotes on everything out the door.

In a way I agree that paying them to dispose of it it almost worth it but pretty sure that is also figured in the price for the works is it not? I personally have not done an oil change on the newer trucks so I can not comment on this spillage you are referring to.

I was referring to the need to dispose of it by you if you DIY, so the savings of DIY shrinks even more if you need to pack it and haul it somewhere to dispose of it.

The list price for a 12 quart case of Motorcraft 5W50 Full Synthetic is $199.93, so that puts the MSRP at $16.66 per quart. Lots of dealers sell the oil for under $15 per quart, but that still doesn't beat $10.49 per quart at O'Reilly

Are you sure you are comparing apples to apples? I see you mentioned 5W50. Spec calls for 5W30. Might explain the big discrepancy in price.

Correct. My truck takes 5W50 as it has a Whipple on it.

As mentioned and I am well aware of that there are better and less expensive oils to use. Not sure if a service shop will let you bring your own but why not.

Ford Motorcraft 5W-50 full synthetic motor oil (PN #XL-5W50-QGT)
Motorcraft oil filter #FL-500

Oil changes at the dealership are always a moving target. I use their sister company Quick Lube’s. I have a 2022 w/ 5.0, my oil changes are always $77.00 with a tire rotation. I believe its called the works as well.

My 5.0 quieted way the heck down after I switched back to my old faithful Mobil 1 full synthetic.

I will not be going back to Motorcraft oil unless it’s a warranty repair.
