I had my oil changed at 5k (5,103) and have put less than 2k on the truck since then. It is saying my oil life is at 48%. I drove a small trailer <3000 for 600 miles, but otherwise nothing special. Is this a sensor system to check oil "life" or is it really mileage based.
This is what the official Ford website says " The available Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor calculates oil change service intervals based on vehicle use, operating conditions, and time since last oil service. " What is the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor System? (ford.com)

It says this at the bottom of that page you linked to.
" We recommend that you follow your owner’s manual for a vehicle-specific maintenance schedule. You can also access the manual along with your service history from your FordPass™ app."
The entire point is that the manual is not available in the ford pass app (in canada apparently) and that the owners manual isn't clear.
