They need to make it where the salesman are forced to take a seat unless someone goes into the building for help.
Long ago, one of the predatory hoverers actually managed to approach fast enough to open the car door--and I mean of the one I was driving.

We pulled it shut and drove off . . .

I'd rather get another colonoscopy than deal with a car salesman and finance guy
I dunno. They put me to sleep for those.

Hmm, maybe I could get anesthesia for while I deal with the dealership?

🤔

The prep, the prep is more bearable than the dealer exp.

When colonoscopy prep (24 hours before) is considered better than a dealership, that dealership needs to get blown up. :)

On another sad note, it is amazing that a small glass of water can take .05 seconds to enter and leave the human body after drinking that prep crap. :(

I miss the days when USAA had a vehicle buying program, easiest method I ever used.
All UUSAA is, is a discount coupon service anymore. And good luck finding one that's useful. Yes I am a member, I figured why the hell not, discounts are good. Trouble is, their discounts are nothing special, at least none that I've found that I couldn't get on my own by simply using google.

A lot of the time, there's no discount at all, they're more expensive with their discount than what I've found on my own at regular price from someone else.

Having sold more than a few vehicles at a dealership, I find it a bit amusing when people complain about the experience. I don't like the process either but can assure you that the customers play as many games as the salespeople and their managers.

Maybe because the customers think the sales people and their managers are trying to scam them?

I found the sales experience tolerable with Ford; I guess it depends on the dealership and if you're getting a sense they're trying to scam you. But overall, I think Ford's pretty good at making a good sales experience. Its very unfortunate Ford falls flat on their face when it comes to actually making reliable vehicles with any sense of quality, so the output doesn't really match the input I guess.

Eh, I'm not looking to fight about it. People overcomplicate the process to try to maximize their gains/value. Nature of the beast.

100%, I didn't not intend a fight with my comment. I just found its an obvious reason for such behavior, but I've always wondered why it seemed to be overlooked as a reason. I am sure in your experience you've see other causes.

My experience with USAA's buyers program goes back at least to eleven years ago when I bought my 2014 F150 using their program. Paid price was less than if I bought the truck directly from the dealer.

My last experience buying a F150 was less than enjoyable. I walked in ready to pay cash and it still took over four hours to complete the deal. The dealership finance "minister" could not get it through his thick head that I wanted to pay for the truck and be gone.

I see the same thing if I sell an item on Marketplace, craigslist, etc. from buyers. Everyone wants an item as cheaply as possible and there are a lot of tactics they use because they think they work. Perhaps they do, sometimes. Criticizing the item, the "I can get it elsewhere better and cheaper" approach, etc. etc.

On the dealership side, I think that the process isn't very transparent. For example, I bought my new F-150 last month. The salesperson dropped the numbers on me, and we began to negotiate. I planned to write a check for the truck, but I know that the dealers get a bonus for selling financing. So, I asked what kind of discount we could make if I financed the truck. $3k off the top, I just have to make 3 payments to hold up my end of the deal.

There's nothing really wrong with any of this as long as people tell the truth. I don't expect people to tell me what their costs are and to know every bit of information. The way I like to do a deal as a buyer or a seller is to talk about what the buyer is looking for and figure out how I can make the deal happen where both sides benefit.

I used to deal in a lot of vintage Corvettes. People asked me often how they could get a good deal on a classic Vette. I'd tell them that, if they didn't care about numbers matching, color, options, year, etc. they could find a "good deal" somewhere and buy a cheap car. But if they had something specific in mind, they had to find the person who owned the car and pay them what it took to buy it.

Dealers take small gains to sell vehicles when buyers chip away at them by shopping around, getting information from the internet and doing other research. Being prepared to walk away is a solid tactic. The dealers also reap huge gross profit from other buyers who want to lessen the pain and go ahead and buy. That's what bugs me-it's all about the amount of effort, time, and trouble the buyers are willing to expend.
