Folding Shifter Delete & Rotary Knob Swap

Is TRON still an issue on 2024 models? The number one thing I hate about my truck is the shifter. I would love to do this.

As far as I know it is. I'm waiting to hear of an update as well. Ford and their "better ideas"!!!!

There still is not a TRON shifter with the plus and minus buttons on it. If you are willing to give up the manual shifting functionality, then a 2025 maverick shifter will probably work. It would require an FDRS session and a Mongoose cable to add the TRON keys to the shifter.

I’ve never used the manual shifting. I’d gladly give up the manual shifting to be able to watch Netflix on my iPad or work on my laptop while using bluecruise. I mean, have access to the wireless charger that is more convenient.

I did the switch a few months ago using the Etsy trim piece. Took about 15 minutes and did NOT have to remove the AC panel (or even the passenger “wing” trim all the way). There is enough give.

After following this thread, I ordered AJZride’s version and it definitely looks more finished and gives a tighter fit. I drive over sand a lot but at slower speeds and the shifter is snug enough I don’t think it will move. But if it does, two drops of hot glue or a small wedge of foam could be added to really lock it in without removing anything but the magnetic trim piece. Next up - adding some ambient lighting to it. The first picture is the Etsy one by ManionMakes. It is nice and I could have lived with it. But it definitely looks 3D printed and I tried to cut a mouse pad for the cubby but the floor of it isn’t quite level. The next two are Alan’s.

Got everything installed this morning. Thanks @Ajzride for a great product. I wasn’t a huge fan of the finish on the available options from Etsy. You nailed it though.

I did have to sand a little bit by the + shift button. It was just tight enough that it caused some drag on that button. Other than that, fitment was great.

I also had the pleasure of pulling everything right back apart due to forgetting an important step…….my key wasn’t recognized and I instantly remembered that I hadn’t hooked up the two plugs under the cupholders. Guess my memory failed since I hadn’t cracked an obligatory beer for this morning job.

Guys, I want this mod and have always thought that center mounted shifters, unless in a manual transmission car (RIP), are just insanely stupid and in the way.

I read the entire thread and already ordered the Expedition shifter.

Next I need to order the trim piece.

When I came across this thread I read through the entire thing and ordered parts that very day. I've always though that the stock shifter was just dumb and clumsy. The rotary switch I bought new and it was backordered and took about 20 days to arrive. Just today the Etsy part from Manion Makes arrived and being a Saturday I was able to do it right then and there. It's about a 1 hour job with interruptions and never having done it before, but finding a video online.

In short, I so LOVE this mod. That big stupid stock shift lever was so assinine. Talk about a creating a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. Wasting space, money, etc. Also, the stock lever is just slow. I had a constant issue with starting my truck and trying to place it in gear, and the lever not going until I waited several seconds.

The rotary knob is fast, clean looking, sleek, and just flat works better. Ideally I'll be able to liquidate the OEM lever and get my money spent on the mod back completely, which would be cool.

A couple of notes:

1) I needed to file the a bit of the shifter mounting tabs to clear inside the truck's shifter compartment. That's what the first picture is.
2) I lost the plastic cap for the bolt. That's on me but I have a new one on the way.
3) The Etsy part is very good. It's not OEM quality plastic, but it's very very good and I'm pleased.

I am so glad that I found this thread. After reading through all of the information, I ordered the rotary shifter and the steering wheel. I got it all installed today and love how it turned out. Now, I am just waiting on Boosted GreyGoose to have more paddle shifter harnesses available so that I can get those working.

That's a very nice looking piece.

Just curious, is there a particular reason for the 'ledges', rather than having the front and sides run straight down from the top, resulting in a slightly larger cubby?
