Folding Shifter Delete & Rotary Knob Swap

I switched the magsafe charger head with my second car so its matched the ambient light color. Same bolts and nuts that came from course motorsport.

Mine Works as it should, manual and if you open the door it goes to park. I temp connected with the truck off (I did not disconnect battery) and all worked. Unfortunately, I cannot give you the model number, the only label on the switch is faded which is weird. But here is the vin number.

I really want to do this mod. I'm currently in a rental Explorer with the dial shifter and I'm not really liking it. Obviously, most of that is my fault. Being that im not used to it i keep going the wrong direction. I go from R to P when intending to go to D...i'll go from D to P instead of R....obviously i hope to get used to it but its taken some of want for adding this to the F150

Have had an explorer for about 8 months and still go the wrong way occasionally.

Yeah, 3.5 years on this 2021 PB and turn it the wrong way every time.

Interesting thought I came up with today. I wonder if there is a way to remount the folding shifter in a 3d printed tray that would allow it to fold down? I’m guessing there is something mechanical that also wouldn’t allow it, like a stop or something? But if there wasn’t maybe there would be a way to also rewire the switch to allow it to fold when it was in gear?

Of course big undertaking in needing to disassemble the shifter to see how the mechanical aspect works.

Or maybe seeing if you could wire part of the current shifter into the rotary knob. Just using the knob to make the same connections that the shifter makes, thereby tricking the system into thinking the shifter was still in place but the knob is doing the work?

Just spitballing ideas here for those of us that are still unable to use the rotary knob, 2024+

Outstanding! Please let us know how you make out. I have the housing coming from the Etsy guy later this month and want to do this for my 2022. Let us know if any codes get thrown with the 2021 Expo dial (part #) and please post pics! Good luck.

curious - what are you guys using to cut the mounting holes off the shifter? Just dremel with a cutoff wheel?
