Now to add some context around my question. lol.

The reason for my question is the last few OTA updates Ford pushed to our trucks, mine truck will remind me every few days an update is available. However, it’s for an update that already applied, so it seems nothing installs. The update icon will clear then a few days later it’s back prompting me it will install the same update again.

Normally this doesn’t bother me, but with the latest vehicle communication update, the icon appears every few days, goes away the next day, then may reappear again later on that week.

I‘m wondering if there is a fix for this scenario. The HSW mod was performed on the truck which started this process. Before the mod the Sync 4 screen would display the successful update icon. Makes me wonder if there’s a problem with the truck’s feedback system to let Ford know the update was successful.

FordPass will show a successful update.

Thanks!

Phantom updates started last year with the 6.x updates. Rumors are that 10.x update fixed it but not enough people have it to know for sure.

Ford has good vehicles but not impressed with their update ability. Sure seems to update alot like windows. Soon the systems will run out of disk space and not update. Already spent over $500 to fix backup camera button update. These issues could push me to drop ford. Maybe go to very old model.

I will update this thread once a 10.x OTA update is installed to my truck.

Some of us can reproduce it regularly. There is one Walmart that every single time I park there I'll get a phantom update notification. ?

Others it seems to be totally random. Mine doesn't do it very often as others on here indicate seeing it daily.

That’s funny you receive an update notice each time you visit that particular Walmart. lol.

My truck falls into the random category; doesn't matter where I'm at it may prompt or may not. Then the icon disappears on the next start up. I wish it would have notified while it was at the dealership getting work done. That would be too convenient. Haha.
