Next weekend, I'm gonna have to drive through a large area that is undergoing resurfacing and sealing. Miles and miles of it.

Anyway, because for several decades, my job had my truck off road and in the mud, more or less everyday, if I ever had it, the detailing gene was beaten out of me a long time ago.

It doesn't have to be that way anymore, so I have a lot to catch up on. Anything fancier than old fashioned paste wax, or NuFinish, is all new to me.

In prep for getting this new truck, I watched a few vids, bought a foam cannon and a couple of the Meguiar's value packages. Within days of bringing my new truck home, I washed it and wiped it down with their ceramic detailing spray and it hasn't been through so much as a puddle since.

So, is there some magic goop I can use to clean off the inevitable tar? Something that won't hurt the finish I've already put on it, or will I have to reapply that?

Alcohol (gel) based hand cleaner works great, and you probably already have some!
Spray wax application after removing is a good practice.

Put on a good wax/sealant (even spray wax) before you start driving and it will help with the removal. You will need to replace it each time, but sadly that is the way it is.

I'm hoping the mudflaps I put on earn their keep but giving it a prep coat, since I know its going to happen, is probably a good idea.

I use Johnny Clean automatic car wash weekly at a minimum or sooner if needed. I go through before and after road trips and I also take Griot's Speed Shine, a gallon of water, a cleaning rag and drying towel with me. Every stop we make I try to keep the front of the truck as clean and slippery as possible and get the build up off before it dries.

I'm obviously not a purist and won't be entering into any show truck competitions, but I'm happy with the results and it doesn't take forever.

The photo of my truck there is after a several hundred mile trip from Orlando to Captiva Island. It's already had the front end water jug, speed shine treatment and is ready for site-seeing :)

I debated getting them but now it wouldn't look right without them. Same with wheel-well liners. My truck has 4WD but I didn't buy it for off-roading like my H3. It's for pulling a TT out of a campsite after a rain.

Eulux from Koch Chemie is absolutely amazing. My truck a bunch of it that looked like box liner spray and it melted it off like melting butter on the stove. It works just like it does in this video. It has astrong smell.
