Hey Guys,

I have a 2022 F-150 in Atlas Blue a splotch has been forming on the side of the bed on the driver side near the tail light it looks like the paint underneath the clear coat is starting to fade. The spots is smooth to the touch but underneath the clear coat the paint is faded and uneven. I'm a little over 19k miles and just over 2 years old. Any shot a body shop could correct this without a whole repaint? Curious if this would be covered by the Bumper to Bumper at all as it is under the clearcoat. What do you guys think should I live with it or try and contact Ford about it? I bought the truck from Chapman in PA and Im currently in NJ.

Is it something on it or just a miss by QC? Painter's tape off the bed rail and hit with a light cut polishing compound on a small buffer.

Granted you could also take it to the dealer for rectification per warranty if they're reliable.

Seems to be under the clearcoat and the spot seems smooth so I'm unsure how this even happened.

If it truly is under the clearcoat, then the only way to correct this will be to repaint the bedside. It maybe a factory defect in the coating that is spreading. Check your warranty coverage, at one time 12 months was the time limit for paint defects. A good body shop can color match and respray the bedside and you won't know it was done. Good luck.

I’ll be checking my 2023 Atlas Blue STX.
It actually wouldn’t surprise me if I find blemishes like this. This paint job on my truck is the worst I’ve ever seen. There are areas that are so slick and smooth like glass, and other areas loaded with orange peel. Very, very, poor quality control.

I would measure it and watch it over time to see if it’s getting larger. If so then you might consider getting some form of repair done. For now I would leave it. Factory paint is never matched by subsequent work. Might look the same at first but over time it can fade to a different shade and is often not as resistant to chipping and scratching as original factory paint. Personal experience.

Very old sun faded paint is difficult but not impossible to match. The 3 times I had someone hit me in vehicles the paint match was perfect and had no issues lasting for just as long as factory. Prep work and the overall quality of work from the shop are important.

If nothing else OP should get it on record with dealer in case it gets worse. They might not want to fix it now, but record can help later if it spreads.
