For 2025

Navigation services require SYNC®4 and FordPass Connect (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service and the FordPass app (see FordPass Terms
for details). Eligible vehicles receive a complimentary 1-year trial of navigation services that begins on the new vehicle warranty start date. Customers must unlock the
navigation service trial by activating the eligible vehicle with a FordPass member account. If not subscribed by the end of the complimentary period, the connected
navigation service will revert to a moving-map and active routing will no longer be available.

Oh the days when you would drive down the highway on a trip and say "Look there is an Exxon station". Let's fill up and get a map for this state, and maybe surrounding states.

Exxon had the best maps, hands down.
Sorry I was a Richfield man before they were arco LOL

My father put himself through college working at "Jim's Richfield" I San Francisco (now the site of yet another condo).

We still have potholders, pencils, and the occasional whisk broom . . .

Does the factory navigation update automatically, or at all? I've used it a couple of times with good results, but in the last 2 years, every highway in MA changed to mile numbers as exit numbers, but the navigation hasn't updated, so the exit numbers are wrong. Sometimes really, really wrong. Directions are still right, just bugs me.

It should but the database itself needs to be updated that Ford gets the info from

I remember the days my dad would stop at AAA auto club stores to pick up a trip til (I think that’s what it was called) for wherever we were going. Do you guys remember that crazy spiral notepad style maps that each page would fold out to a particular area. They’d even use a highlighter on the route for you.

But, speaking of sync 4 nav, before getting my ‘22 I though it allowed selection of using native nav map or Waze based mapping THRU the factory nav system? After getting my truck I scoured the settings but looks like it was removed? I assume to push the nav subscription biz. I like the factory nav integration into the Speedo display area to free up the sync 4 display for other stuff but for now I still depend on CarPlay Waze for all my nav.

For the 25 models, the $80 annual subscription only provides live traffic updates, right? The navigation itself works without the subscription, or so I read ....

https://www.ford.com/technology/connected-navigation/#connectednavigation5

What happens if my Connected Navigation trial ends and I do not renew?

2025 vehicles with Connected Navigation
Reverts to Embedded Navigation with no Connected Navigation services (e.g., live traffic) if Connected Navigation is not renewed after the trial ends.

If you have embedded Nav. Many of us do not. It appears to be dependent on MY, Trim, and options. i.e. My23 302A reverts to just a map, not able to input nav request.

I still have AAA maps in my truck to be prepared for any need for evacuation out of the area i.e. earthquake, flood, fire, comet, or zombie apocalypse.

It's never a bad thing to be prepared! (y)

I hope the don’t shut it off completely without a subscription. I am sick of the subscriptions and you don’t own X feature on your vehicle unless you pay. This “You will own nothing and be happy” business model in the name of security and safety is wrong on so many levels. @Deanrd52 I went down same rabbit hole as I have been same predicament with poor signal. I came to the same answer reference here, and am extremely frustrated.
I just don't get this widespread hate for subscriptions / ongoing services.

If I would have to pay to keep using my brakes, sure that would make me mad.

But map updates? These maps don't update themselves. People get paid to collect and organize the data that makes these map updates possible. So, I want them to get paid, as I want to keep receiving these updates!

Then there is real-time traffic updates and automatic rerouting. It costs real money to collect vast amounts of traffic data and analyze it well enough to to adjust predicted arrival times and recommend alternate routes to minimize delays. Making these and other types of capability a reality requires more than a $700 iPad or two.

The 3-year connected navigation that came with our 2021 expired this fall. After we ran without it for a couple of months the $80/year to reinstate the service for another year has proved to be a very good value!

I think people are just tired of how many things have moved over to a subscription model over the years. Some things make sense, like the map updates you mentioned, but so many products are only available via a monthly box subscription or 5 different streaming services because the good shows are spread out over them all etc... Even on the topic of cars, BMW had that controversy a few years back of trying to force people onto a subscription to use heated seats and other features. It's gotten pretty ridiculous but anyway, old man rant over, lol.

I'm fine with BlueCruise/Nav needing a subscription but I don't personally use either other than just having the moving map up for awareness when I'm not actually navigating somewhere so as long as I can have that without paying, I'm good.

So on a '25, the $80 per year only buys you live traffic updates, nothing else, right?
Is that actually included in the "Premium Connectivity" at $10 per month?
Ford's connectivity stuff and subscriptions are confusing, to say it mildly. :)
