I bought a 2022 Lariat Powerboost and I loved the truck. However it was in the shop for so many things and so often, Ford bought it back. I subsequently bought a GMC SLT and it has been a good truck but I am tempted to buy another Lariat. I would hate to buy back into the problems I had with the first Lariat. What is the sense of the new Lariat Powerboost trucks -- are they any more reliable than the 2022 I had?

Get one with a 5.0 and it will likely be more reliable. You wont have the instant torque of the electric motors but you will have a proven capable work horse with 400 HP. Like anything else though I bet Ford has worked put a lot of the bugs in the PB and made it more reliable too.

Was your Lariat bought back due to Lariat specific issues? My ‘22 302A PB has had just one issue thus far. The passenger side mirror camera failed following a hurricane. I suspect wind driven rain got into the housing.

I had some low battery issues early on but they've been completely gone for more than a yr. by doing a bench charge and BMS reset.

Love the truck. Wouldn't be without one.

My Lariat first had a leak in the exhause heat exchanger which took 29-days in the shop. Next my AC kept freezing up. As I was driving the AC would stop working. I would stop and find ice formed around all of the AC lines. I had to turn off the AC and wait 30-minutes for things to thaw. This was a repeat fault that was never fixed and in the shop when the truck was repurchased. When going up a local NC mountain road at maybe 55-mph in cruise control, the truck would periodically vibrate as if there was a transmission problem. The Infotainment screen would periodically go blank requiring a reboot. There were other small things I cannot remember since it has been three years. I loved the truck when it worked and now that my GMC is running out of warranty I am shopping for another truck. I would like to try another Lariat but I would feel real silly if I spent a lot of money buying the same problems.

Understand. None of those issues seem Lariat specific. I wouldn’t buy any other half ton pickup other than the PowerBoost after my experience thus far. 33,000 miles in.

Best I can tell you had a singular PB problem. Heat exchanger. Which admittedly I had that issue as well. Solved. All good since. However, the other issues you listed were not Lariat or PB specific. Hate you had all those issues. Hope you land a solid truck. I take it your GMC is not part of the engine recalls? Best of luck!

Let me just say this. Ford, GM, Ram, Toyota… they all have problems. I just traded my 2021 GMC Sierra SLT with the 5.3 liter V8. At 25,000 miles, one of the lifters collapsed… bent the rod. GM had to tear the whole engine apart on my brand new truck. I was extremely upset as you can imagine. Then at 81,000 miles, the transmission left me stranded and I had to dump $3,000 into it to fix it. It also has several other smaller issues. After the transmission issue, I decided to go back to a Ford. Bought my 2025 Lariat PB in April of this year. I’ve already got 10,000 miles on it. Zero issues so far. Do I think it will be perfect and never have an issue? Doubt it, just hoping I don’t have the engine blow up like my GMC. Hoping the major components last much longer. GM has had a hell of a time with their 5.3 and 6.2 V8s. Tundras have had lots of issues. It’s just widespread at this point. Quality Assurance and Quality control is a thing of the past. My dad also has a PB. His is a 2023 Limited. He has around 50,000 miles, with zero problems so far. It’s honestly luck of the draw. And don’t get me wrong, I love my Ford. But, you really just have to take a leap of faith with any new truck these days.

I appreciate your story. My 5.3 GMC Sierra is doing fine at the moment but I want to replace it this coming December. I really liked my Ford Lariat and am looking into another one..

2023 Lariat. Only problem was low battery. Dealer replaced after my 4th visit to service. I don't give up easy and refused to buy the battery after shelling out this much for a truck. Got my axle recall done (max tow recall) and now feel much better about cross country camping trips.
Love the Powerboost and I would get another.

Sounds like you had a run of bad luck to have all those issues happen together. To my knowledge all of those things has been fixed in the newer trucks and have TSBs out for the older ones.

Personally, I'm just shy of 1 year with my '24 PB and just under 7k miles (I'm always well below the avg miles on our vehicles) and the only issue I had requiring a trip to the dealership was the GSM, which isn't PB-specific, but seems to be a widespread issue ATM. Most people (including me) are/were able to drive around without issue other than the wrench light, but a few people have had their shifter get stuck in a position and basically brick the truck because they can't shift into/out of Park.

Overall I think all of the F150 options are hitting their peak reliability right now, although no product is perfect. Everyone seems to be having issues these days but at least Ford's engines are pretty mature at this point and seem solid compared to some other companies.

Thank you for a thoughtful answer.

If you need (or really want) the 7.2kW generator, there isn't another option out there.

My best advice to you........buy a CPO with a perfect CARFAX that already has enough miles on it to have made it through the beginning of the bathtub curve. Generally speaking......3-10k miles should be enough for any of those production issues to be made apparent. Ask the dealer for the OASIS report, and you will see everything that pickup has ever had touched on it.

I chose a 2021 with 40k on it last year, so I was already into the flat part of the bathtub curve. The price was right and they offered me a good deal on my trade.

Thank you for your service! My buddies and I were in a tough spot back in 2004 and appreciated the efforts of your brethren a time or two.

I work for range operations on Fort Leonard Wood now, and stopping by Cannon Range to watch the A10's BRRRRT at 100 ft. AGL never gets old. Good luck with your search!

Did you have specific PB issues, or general F150 issues? Edit to add, the heat exchanger, which was fixed under warranty. Otherwise, just generic issues.

Yep. None of those consume oil at all...
