I'm pretty sure the response was in reference to the implication that we are risking our warranty by using FDRS to fix our trucks.

If Ford was going to use FDRS logs to determine if a truck is suffering abuse and harm, it would be the trucks at the dealership that are taking an FDRS beating. :)

Hello,

Would anyone be able to have a look at my VIN and see if there is any updates required? My Ford pass shows Blue cruise is good until 2025 but my truck shows it expired in March 2022 before it was even built. 1FTFW1ED7NFA55365

The windshield replacement industry used to be primarily a brick&mortar business. And there still are places that you bring your vehicle to for the procedure. But these days there are many mobile solutions for windshield replacement.

We might not even think about it, but not long ago that wouldn't have been even imagined. I've got "a guy" that I use and he just comes to my barn and does the job. Very professional and stands behind his work.

I don't pretend to be a prophet, but it's not hard to imagine an mobile on-site FDRS service existing.
With the ability to control one computer with another from anywhere in the world , as long as there is a internet connection, would not stop one from updating a truck from home. IE - Using Teamviewer or some such type of software. Before I retired, I was at a company that almost all of the machines were connected to the internet in some fashion and trouble shooting was done from the OEM office or "ON CALL" tech from his home.

Not really. You may get it OTA.

My truck has been at the dealer for 8 days to get it unstuck from 1.7.1. Could someone run my vin and tell me what the dealer has been doing? They have run down almost a half tank of gas and no miles have been added. 1FTFW1E8XMKD79502 Thank you very much. I will call them tomorrow.

June 9th, they hooked up to it but didn't do anything. 1 network scan but no update effort of any kind

June 13th, first procedure was an APIM update that failed due to battery condition. (notorious for ignoring the necessity for keeping battery on charger during the long procedure. This is why the pro's aren't really professional)
Then 5 attempts to run the "module update repair" procedure on the APIM/TCU
The first 4 attempts failed with the notorious "ethernet adapter" issues
The 5th attempt succeeded and the repair was accomplished, resulting in the "update" now being possible to apply.

So attempt #1 of APIM failed at part number validation point
End of June 13

June 15,
They ran a reset procedure on the APIM
Then the APIM update procedure failed due to battery condition
They then ran a "reset battery monitor sensor learned values" procedure, and called it a day.

June 16

APIM update
Battery condition warning and part number validation failure

They then for some reason returned to the Module Update Repair procedure a couple more times. I don't know what they are thinking.

And that's it.

They still have not successfully updated a single module, including the APIM.

I know I am coming across as a jerk towards the service guys. I don't mean it personally. But everyone who has attempted to do this themselves have done a much more productive job.

I seriously believe that if you can get your battery up to 12.6 and it STAY there, and you have a decent internet connection, and you follow the USB instructions perfectly, your APIM update will succeed.

After that, you are off to the races
