I used ECO mode exclusively for about a year and then I have been using Normal mode for a few months now. As others have said, it changes the shift points a little, makes the accelerator less responsive, and makes the cruise control less aggressive. In my Powerboost, ECO mode makes it easier to keep the truck in electric mode during acceleration. It is my impression that if you are someone that drives in the ways that maximalize gas mileage, it probably doesn't help much, which is why I generally use Normal mode now, except when using the cruise control.

I concur with your findings! It does keep the cruise control from hogging the accelerator, but of course if you're on a high-speed interstate that could get you run-over.

Eco and normal drive modes in my 22 3.5L are a negligible difference, especially so on the highway, best I’ve gotten was 22.3mpg in normal mode cruising at 75mph in Indiana.

Around the city I do notice a nominal improvement when in eco, with starting from a stop less likely to engage the turbos, maybe a half mile to mile mpg improvement, but not really enough to have a significant impact, or worry to remember to keep the truck in Eco.

forgot to add 3.55 gears in the back

I use regular gas except when towing and have gotten up to 25 on a trip using cruise and staying under 70. I regularly get 20-21. When towing my travel trailer….10-11.

I have tested both Normal and Eco on my 22 PB extensively. I find Normal is certainly more responsive and confident, but Eco has provided noticibly better gas mileage for me. Ive also found Eco tends to favour electric more than Normal does which is perhaps why the mileage I see in Eco is consistently better than Normal. That being said, Normal is way more fun.

I'm of a mind that a lot of the fuel mileage variances we see posted about here, especially on the PBs, has as much to do with terrain and road type, as fuel mixtures and driving styles.

A trip I often make is 3 miles, on a well paved but 2 lane road. Some hills, some flat. Speed limit is 30 and 35. I frequently spend 2/3 of it, in all electric mode.

I tried eco mode for around a month solid and found no difference worth having to select it, at each start up.

Yeah, I thought so as well, but I tested the two modes over a number of months on identical terrains and distances and still found Eco significantly better. I actually thought that PB drivers might be unintentionally more heavy on the gas than they realize just because Normal is so much more responsive and fun!

Nothing proven here but if I will manually downshift a gear or 2 the boost gauge backs off and the MPG gauge goes up. This is hiway driving with hills or wind. Need more time and road trips to mess with the theory. Only have 3600 miles on the F150 and 1600 or so on the 2nd motor.

From what I hear the eco mode is for driving in town … I drive in Sport mode always , and When I’m very conservative and stay outta boost I tend to get around 18 mpg on highway running 73 mph in my 21 screw fx4 3.5 with JB4 and 295/70/18 Mickey Thompson Baja Legends … But if I’m in the boost passing idiots then it’s around 13/14 ..it’s fun … Passing Idiots doing 55 in a 65 like they’re standing stills … Cus in Ca there are so many dumb cowards it’s why we’re screwed …. The truck is so quick going from 70 to 100 is ridiculous.... and not on purpose it’s just quick to hit the governor … I run 87 octane … the jb4 is way better with 92 , more hp and better mpgs when your out of boost …but it’s nearly impossible .. Ca used to be Great until it became a communist left wing government so now they screw us all even the dumb … that vote for them .. I comply to very few so called laws in this state Full of stupid …

Wind. I set mine to Eco every time I get in, and as far as I can tell, it does nothing other than reduce the digital throttle response.
The engineers spent a lot of effort on the aerodynamics, the louvered grill and the air dam curtain that comes down. Seems between 40 and 50 mph I get the best MPG's.
On long highway trips I'll get behind a semi in 'one car length' mode for the radar cruise control and it will get 22-25 MPG at 75 MPH that way. The truck drivers don't seem to like that at night though, I think it's the headlights. My overall average is right at 17 MPG.
I’ve seen too much s**t thrown up by semis to feel comfortable that close to them (about 1/2 my time on the road is on my Triumph)- not worth the risk for me.

I consistently use the Economy mode, and my average is around 18 mpg. Not a big increase at all. Hardly worth all the effort to make it work in my opinion.

Once the eco-boost gets going, it's great for mileage. Once the turbo(s) start spinning, there goes the mileage. Do you have a way to monitor the boost, like a gauge or an OBDII scan gauge ? I was surprised how often my Ranger's little 2.3 EB was into the boost, but it explained why I struggle to get over 20 mpg's, even on long trips. Head winds and hilly terrain are really hard on EB MPG's.
On my 21 XLT PB, I can switch the gages on the dash to show the turbo. It shows well when it is on and how hard its working. I also drive in normal mode with Regular unleaded and get 20mpg in town but I have to feather drive qith the accelerator.
