What would you guys do?
On Monday: I found a truck on Ford Inventory that was in transit and got ahold of the dealer and started putting a deal together. The sales guy was slow as hell but between then and now we agreed to MSRP, they will do a window tint and bed liner, and give me $29K for my trade. The sales guy sent me a KBB Instant Cash Offer for the trade amount to my email and I said sweet write up the deal and send it to me and I'll get my bank loan check and be on my way. I put a $500 deposit down.

6PM last night the sales manager calls me and basically tells me to f* off. Says they'll only do $28K for the trade, no bedliner, no tint. Does not seem to care about what the sales guy agreed to? Everything is in writing in email/text message. He's literally just telling me no. So I agreed to it for now to get him off the phone and get the deal in writing but what would you guys do?

I like the truck that is incoming, its a Carbonized Gray 502A Lariat Sport with the BAP. It's probably a pretty rare build from what I've seen given the inventory. But I'm also a principals man and this guy really irritated me. So just curious you alls thoughts. I can always take the deal and then rake them over the coals on the survey and in reviews but I don't know if that practically has any effect.

I would tell the sales manager to go F himself and not only never do business there again, but make sure I tell every person I know not to as well. The only reason people get away with treating customers like this is because people take it and still give over their money to them. Please STOP doing that! Hold them accountable for their bad behavior FFS.

The guy that everyone b*&%ches to at work...
Honestly, if it were me? I’d walk. These types of games are why dealers have such a bad reputation. In my own case, I wanted to order a vehicle. My son and I walked in and not one of the salesmen could be arsed to help, with an APPOINTMENT for a custom order. Instead, they handed me off to the poor new guy who was still learning the ropes.

The dealer I made the appointment with is one I’ve purchased multiple vehicles from over the past 20 years. All the ‘seasoned’ salespeople were busy gossiping. I’m sure it had something to do with the current market for used and new vehicles. We did work with the new guy all the while the older, more seasoned reps were busy interjecting, but not assisting the poor guy. All he knew how to do was use the build a vehicle section of fords website. Could he answer my questions? Nope. Did he know about any sales offers or incentives? Nope. Was it his fault? In my opinion, no. Did it cost them my business? Yes. As mentioned earlier in this thread, they want to act like every vehicle is a priceless antiquity and try to sell them as such. I ended up ordering through one of the dealers on here under invoice.

At the end of the day, they’re going to play the emotional game with you. Don’t fall for it. It’s your money, not theirs. They’re just trying to help you part with it by playing typical dealer games.

bill clinton singed a law that email signatures are binding
if you have the sales turkey agreeing to everything in an email, its very binding.

and call ford and raise it to a level that gets dealer in poo poo tell your friends and neighbors

if you want the truck...press them hard, see the owner by pass sales manager. or go straight to finance officer with the email and your check
if its a conglomerate that has hundreds of lots, walk away and find another truck

no one has to sell anything or buy anything if there is a "signature". Its all useless. I used to sell, the papers mean jack squat. Just a fear tactic. No one can be forced, buyer or seller.

Surveys and reviews. What a bunch of pansy ass people. Go handle your business. Nobody wants to hear your whining online. Man up and go handle your business. I'm tired of reviews. Buy the truck or don't.
You might feel differently once you get your driver's license.

I'm pretty sure he's on the other end of the spectrum - probably shouldn't have his license anymore :ROFLMAO:

I think because you agreed to the new terms that those are now the terms the deal is bound to and you have no recourse other than to bail on this deal. In the current market many dealers are shady. I would have fought for the terms of the original deal, and opened a dispute with the State’s Attorney General and BBB.. however, I think this is a moot point.
So I agreed to it ...
If you agreed to a counter offer, all previous offers are void.

Nothing personal, but THIS is why Ford and dealerships do these things, because people are willing to reward dealers for this kind of behavior. You are fully aware of their business ethics, and there is no guarantee they will honor that price when it gets there ... and understand that it is ordered and will probably take 10+ weeks to arrive.

More than likely this was a retail order (customer ordered) and the customer has backed out or the dealer is selling out from under him. Pull up the Window Sticker and look at the middle bottom of the page, under the Ford Credit box. If it says SPECIAL ORDER in that box, it was a retail order.

Next, know your options. What else is out there. The best search engine I have found is on JoinYAA.com. You don't have to join, but Your Auto Advocate has much more info than Ford.com. It will even show how many days the truck has been on the market. I found my truck on this site and it wasn't available on Ford or the Dealer's website.

In short, you agreed to a new deal. There is a chance the dealer already has a new buyer for this. It will be sold to the person who pays the highest price. You have some very clear Red Flags and a good indication of how they do business before the sale, and this is probably a good predictor of how they will do business when the truck is on the lot and they put a pen in your hand.

I'm the consumer. That's the side of the table I sit at. It's as old as mankind. A bargaining position.

After decades (I'm old) I have come to the conclusion that being happy with my purchase is more important than "winning" the negotiation. Those are two very different things.

I recently purchased my 2022 KingRanch Powerboost from the same dealership that I have bought my Ford products from for the last 25 years. It recently had changed ownership and so I was a NEW customer to the management of the dealership but an old customer to the salesman and the computer system.

When it finally arrived, after 6-months, I sat down to make the deal and I agreed to $73k purchase price on an $80k MSRP.
The salesman took my offer to management and returned with the approval. I was a little surprised, to be honest. I asked him how did that get approved so easily?

He said that they started by absolutely saying no! Then asked him why are you willing to sell him that truck for that price?

He said he explained to them : First, this is a customer who has been buying trucks here for longer than I can remember. And he has sent us referrals for many years as well. Second, he can buy any truck he wants from anywhere for any price. He WILL walk and not even make a fuss. But we will never see him again......

I appreciate him putting words in my mouth. And I'm not saying that I wouldn't have paid more for the truck if he had come back with a counter-offer. I would have. But what is MOST important to me sitting at the table is am I an appreciated customer as a human being? I prefer to enjoy ALL of the consumer experience, not just the product itself.

I guess I'm saying that usually I would walk if I got the feeling that I'm nothing but a bidder. I like to shake hands with the fella on the other side of the table. I want him/her to go home that night and tell their spouse that they had a good day at the office and maybe I had a little something to do with that. :)
