I plan to hardwire a dash cam behind the rearview mirror. I was going to tie into a switched power circuit in the area of the headliner console but only recently learned about the existence of hardwire kits designed specifically for the purpose.

Those kits include automatic shutoff logic based on voltage, so the parking monitor works without killing the battery. Can anyone recommend one kit over another? If you can, I assume you've been using it awhile. Have you ever experienced a battery problem? I'm guessing the load from a camera is very low.

As to connecting the hardwire kit to the fuse panel, I've read reports that standard fuse taps won't work because the fuse panel slots are either too deep or too narrow. Can someone recommend a fuse tap (or other approach) that works?

I'm running a Pelsee P1 Duo Dash Cam with their hardwire kit. I love the dash cam and their customer service is fantastic. I however can't recommend their hardwire kit though, because it states that power will be cut off at 11.7v. I do have parking mode on, set for timelapse video and for 24 hours... never an issue with low battery, but it still makes me nervous. Their hardwire kit as no adjustments like many other brands (though on their website it says 11.7v-22v), so that's something to keep in mind.

Bussmann Fuse Taps are your friend. It's super easy to hardwire most Fords. Just make sure you run the power cord behind the airbag in the A-pillar. I got my camera through BlackBoxMyCar.
