I plan to hardwire a dash cam behind the rearview mirror. I was going to tie into a switched power circuit in the area of the headliner console but only recently learned about the existence of hardwire kits designed specifically for the purpose.
Those kits include automatic shutoff logic based on voltage, so the parking monitor works without killing the battery. Can anyone recommend one kit over another? If you can, I assume you've been using it awhile. Have you ever experienced a battery problem? I'm guessing the load from a camera is very low.
As to connecting the hardwire kit to the fuse panel, I've read reports that standard fuse taps won't work because the fuse panel slots are either too deep or too narrow. Can someone recommend a fuse tap (or other approach) that works?
