Dangerous B&O sound system issue

For those still following this thread, I was able to get mine to a dealer while it was happening and recorded it after the 4th time it occurred. It happened with my baby in the vehicle so I was displeased to say the least. Vehicle has been in the dealer over a month without a solution. They’ve attempted to replace the amp and can’t get it to “initialize” so I’m getting the runaround while the dealer blames Ford and vise versa. What a terrible look for Ford and an $80k+ vehicle (a Limited).
Avoid the unleashed system if you can, or sadly I might say avoid Ford products altogether as my wife’s Navigator is also simultaneously in the shop for a cracked plastic transmission pan (which also happened on my PB).

The guy that everyone b*&%ches to at work...
I had a situation similar to this happen this week, but it wasn’t as long lived as the rest of these posts. It is loud and my son said he damn near soiled his shorts. I switched sources from CarPlay to FM and it stopped. All I can do is sympathize with the other folks who experienced the far worse scenario where nothing stops it.

As this been fixed at all? Mine just did this loud white noise and I couldn’t get it to stop until I unplugged the battery. As this whole issue been resolve if so what do I do. Scared to drive my truck!

This has happened at least 4 times to my Tremor in the 10 months I have had it. It’s been to the dealer twice for the issue. The last service, a month ago, I forced them to do an up date to my APIM via FDRS. Guess they don’t like to update modules as it’s not billable to Ford from what others have mentioned. Still occasionally get static like sound when switching from reverse screen back to audio screen. So I don’t think the APIM update was the fix. Everyone needs to report the incidents so a fix will become mandatory. Here is the link to do so…

There is a DSP update that came out a few months ago that fixes the pop/static issue:


SSM 51663 2021-2023 F-150/Expedition - Pop Noise And/Or Static In Speakers At Start Up
2021-2023 F-150/Expedition may exhibit a pop noise and/or static in the speakers at start up that cannot be turned down or off using the audio system controls. To correct the condition, reprogram the audio digital signal processing module (DSP) to the latest software level using the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) diagnostic scan tool. For claiming, use causal part 18B849 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.


What you are describing seems to be a glitch from some of the newer updates and not the same things being described on this thread. It may or may not help your current issues. This SSM was released very recently on 5/26 and may have not been available the last time you were at the dealer.

Don't bother with this. See my post above. There is a fix for this that came out of May 26th. Make an appt with your dealer, tell your service advisor what happened and reference SSM 51663.

Edit: While they're at it, your truck has an open recall 22S71 for possible windshield wiper motor replacement. Have them check that out, too.

I assume the dsp reprogramming will not happen automatically with an Ota update?

It will not. The DSP module is one of the few that cannot be updated via the OTA process.

New member here , 22 Limited PB and this “static/alarm” has hit us three times .. it’s absolutely amazing how loud and irritating it is .. Not sure if Ford is doing anything yet … but this is bad !

This just happened to me for the first time and boy did I underestimate how bad this really is. It’s been an hour and my head is still ringing.

Has anyone confirmed that the update mentioned here fixes the issue? If so I’ll pay whatever it takes to not have this happen again.
