If you want to overpay go here.
Amazon Safe

Or save $80 and look on ebay
Ebay Safe

The Ebay link is the seller I bought from. There are others within a buck or two price wise. I went with the seller I did simply because at the time I saw it he was sold out but the only one selling them. So when Ebay sent me a notification that they were available (and the price had dropped) I pulled the trigger.
How safe and secure does it feel?

Is it possible to pry out?

i.e. would you feel confident leaving a pistol in there while going for a 4-5 hour hike?

You have to think of these safes as another layer of security. It also puts it out of sight.

Leaving a fire arm in a vehicle not secured in gun safe or console vault is not a good practice. The way I look at it is the jury would determine a reasonable person would lock their firearm up vs. an unreasonable person just leaving it laying inside a locked car.

Any determined thief is can break into any safe with enough time. This will slow down and maybe cause a thief to move on.

To answer your question yes with a crow bar I can gain access to your fire arm. Yes I am comfortable leaving my fire arm secured in the console vault.

As said it's going to slow them down. face it it's installed in a plastic box. I think the only way to get a really secure would be like ai had in my Tundra. It was a complete box and bolted through the palstic into the steel underneath.

And if I was going on a 4-5 hour hike, I'd have my weapon with me.

Wanted to add, it comes with the secure torx and a wrench, Take the wrench and toss it. Just use a 10mm and ratchet.
One other tip, there is a piece of plastic trim below the lid inside the console, take it off to get at the back two screws or curse the engineer.

Thanks! I went ahead and ordered 1 from the ebay link. It looks like no problem, but I will go to school on your install. Thank you.

i watch too many Lockpicking Lawyer and DeviantOllam videos. Immediately looking for the easy to pick secondary tube lock, and wondering how well that roller lock is done to make it tough to pick.

@Bo15
Derek please see the plethora of pics below.

Materials came well packed and organized. Even applying double-sided tape as detailed in the instructions, I had tape left over.

One change to the install process for me; I re-programmed the lock *before* installing.

You can see it fits below the trays, is predominately hidden when they're in place, and no issues with the work-surface console.

@Carphunter

Pics below detail the oversized tongue and its engagement with three slots. Also are detailed construction of the hinge.

I see the biggest risk being the 3-digit combo, not construction or fitment. But as said earlier, a determined thief will get into most things. - This is just another layer of defense and (more importantly) due diligence in the off-chance someone makes off with a pew-pew and does something unsavory with it.

Installed the safe today and wish I had reread this post cause I was cursing the engineer today.

Got mine from the linked Ebay seller. Installed last Saturday-no problems on install, had changed the code, worked perfect.

Sunday-after driving the truck and returning home, I was unable to open it. Used the correct code, but the knob would just not turn. If you look at the above photos, once it's installed, it's not coming out without significant damage.

I contacted the seller requesting advice. He was very interested and gave me information to attempt to troubleshoot and advised me to let him know if it worked-it didn't.

The next day I contacted him and he sent me a video with another attempt-again said to let him know if it worked. It didn't.

This morning, he sent me some photos and instructions stating if I was using the correct code, this would open it. Told me to let him know...... It worked!

I think the problem was the Phillips screw on the bottom/underside of the combination lock-holding the locking tab was loose. I tightened it and put some grease on the locking tab, now it opens very smooth. Yall might want to check that screw and grease the tab. But yes, it is very secure!

I didn't like the 3-digit combination, so I changed it to a biometric lock. It's a perfect fit. The only negative is there is no hard stop when you unlock it. I put a 100lb pull magnet in the position where I wanted it to stop. Works perfect.

Thats a great idea! Care to share any info or links to where you got the biometric lock from?
