Yup, I remember feeling the same with my 402A. Fortunately, mine came with the connected BUILT IN once I got my window sticker.
Good for you! You must have just squeaked yours in before they stopped taking orders with that option. I felt good that mine would go through being a 502a, but I was sweating it.

Then I was thinking maybe I will go through all this and it will suck when I get it. However just the opposite. It is far better than I hoped it would be. My use has been limited but works great and with my Garmin as a backup, no issues traveling at all.

I agree with how it’s actually pretty good comparatively speaking. I do know that if I had ordered a 401A at the time, it would’ve been deleted, but no one could tell me with any certainty if the 402A would suffer the same fate. My only delete was the auto start-stop. Oh, and I got a $50 credit for taking delivery without the fender vents (which I finally received in January 2023.)

I find the connected built in navigation maps to be not the greatest. I added it to my build because there are times camping off grid that I'd prefer to have outdated built in maps instead of nothing. I haven't found the traffic and map updates anywhere near as good as various phone nav apps though.

Mine will expire in August. I honestly do not recall getting but one map date over the past 3 years, and the update was within the first six months or so of the purchase. So, it seems they do not really update each year.

Does anyone know what the most current map update software number is for a 2021?

The maps are updated quarterly for local area and annually for the entire set. They are downloaded in the background and do not have a version number. The version number you see in the NAV software settings is a version number for the NAV software only and not the maps that the software is using.

It took me a while to figure this out, but you'll notice that new housing developments and highways get added, even though the software version hasn't changed.

It would be nice if the map software version was displayed along with the nav software version but sadly it's not.

Interesting. There are many places around me that have moved, closed etc and my nav hasn't updated them, years after the moves. It's not the end of the world. Just not as current as I'd hoped.

I agree, and have noticed the same thing. Ford uses a third party company to supply the NAV maps. "Here" and they are very slow to update things. I think this is why they are moving to Google maps in the future with there new vehicles. You can see this already in the new Fordpass version, it nolonger uses Here and now uses Google maps

In 2022 they deleted the built in nav with the 3 year trial for any truck less than a 502a. This was a big feature for me and I just squeaked in with my 502a order. The regular nav got the 90 day trial.
Same with me. I order my vehicle Sept 2021 but got it build in Jan 2022. I got stuck with some deletes including ambient lighting but retained the 3 year connected nav.

IMO Android Auto and Google Maps are way better anyway. I let my 3-year trial "CONNECTED BUILT-IN NAVIGATION" expire in April on my 2021 job 1 truck because I've never used it. Basic navigation still works as before though. Google maps update all the time so worrying about map updates is a moot subject for me.

When cell service is available google maps will always be superior. I don't use AA because I can't connect my phone to the Hotspot and AA without a wired connection. But that is the best navigation option IMO

"Here" is what Amazon uses and my company just changed to that for our GPS tracking. It shows stuff that hasn't existed for 20 years on the map....

My experience yesterday with my recently expired connected navigation using only built in. I was driving on a road that has existed for at least two years but it showed me off road until I finally reached a connected road on the map.
I did not drive that trip before my connected navigation expired so I can't say that it would be there or not. I'm certainly curious but it is an hour away from home I was just helping a friend with project.

Anyone know why I can't reactivate Navigation when activation is pending?

Thank you for the reply. I will have to look closer at some newer developments in the area and watch as they are added.

You got a 3 year trial? I got a 90 day trial.
What you got depended on the options you selected. I got three years.
Think you lose the weather radar map as well. But since carplay now allows weather radar, that is no longer an issue for me.

I got a 3 year with my 21, picked up in May of 21. I remember hearing that in late 22 or early 23 they were down to 90 day trial for the nav.

I use AA, cord connected, when ever I need to. I like it because I don't have to sit in the truck and load destinations I want to go to. I do that on my phone, siting in my comfy chair.

Note; Just got an AA update to my phone. Will see what that fixed or added.
