Hi everyone - often times when my vehicle fires up, Carplay will not produce any sound but will show Spotify or Apple playing music. Switching to radio works fine for audio.

Currently I have to reboot the head unit.

I am running 6.8 and have unsync'd and sync'd my phone.

Anybody encounter this? Search history didn't prove much.

Thanks!

This also happens to me every time upon restart after the truck is shut off and phone left inside. Only fix I've found is the sync reboot. Think I'm still on 6.5 but current ios17

Yep, the reboot is the only thing that has fixed it for me.

Same here. Google Maps when synced to CarPlay also is buggy, sometimes half the screen is black/grey. Same fixes, reboot.

Hey there, Dan! If you are still in need of assistance, can you please send me a PM with your VIN and dealer name/location so I can look into these CarPlay volume and screen concerns for you? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation". I'd be happy to see what I can do to assist!

Has anyone considered reporting this issue to the NTSB? I have 5 F series trucks, all with this issue, and the dealership cannot resolve it. One even swapped the APIM to no avail. It's clearly a software issue that is not being rectified.

I would think this would be considered a safety issue as the phone audio doesn't work either, and navigation audio quits working. Forcing a restart stops navigation on the phone and it has to be restarted, leading to severe distraction. Just a thought...perhaps if Ford developers cannot be bothered to fix this issue, maybe the government needs to step in. I could be wrong, but this seems like a simple over the air update could solve this. My oldest F 150 with Sync 4A is a 2022...they have had ample time to resolve this. I have even recorded feedback on one of the systems and sent it into them.

My guess is that folks would say you should pull over and do all of this. JMO

I think the issue is this problem happens randomly and sometimes it's when traveling along an interstate or something like that.

Not to mention that it's a very very frustrating bug in a very expensive truck. There is simply no way the developers are not aware of this issue, but I suspect that either Ford is outsourcing development (surprise, surprise), and/or they do not have enough inside talent.

I experience this randomly too. Instead of rebooting though, I’ve been able to go to the phone list, disconnect CarPlay, then reconnect to get it working.

I've found that sometimes works. The disconnect seems to be smooth, but I often get the error that CarPlay is disabled on the phone (which it is not), or it just spins and never connects. This is across all vehicles so it has to be a software glitch on the Sync side. I don't have any issues with a Sony stereo I have in an older truck.

Experience this often as well. Can usually disconnect carplay from the audio settings onscreen and audio will come back but sometimes have to resort to resetting the APIM and/or my iPhone.
