Reading comprehension failure for the OP. The regs will force manufacturers to produce ZEV motorhomes as they are not going to do so voluntarily. Class B are easily replicated by mounting a slide-in camper on a F-350 or F-450 truck as many people have already done, myself included. The slide-in camper provides double the usable interior space of Class B van and on par with a Class C motorhome.

I saw that during the election counting. It started off blue but then recovered.

Ya know... there's always that pesky, ole Law of unintended consequences... I suspect it'll kick in sooner rather than later...

1970's Austin liberal is a whole different animal than today's Austin/California liberal., ?

I wish being a classic (70's) hippie was Austin's biggest cultural challenge currently. ?

My childhood and youth included lots of Canyon lake weekends. Fond memories indeed.
Having lived in Austin for almost 25 years, this quote comes to mind.. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others..
I kind of think it applies to Austin also! ?

The state is running out of money so all do is tax people more. Sooner or later this will backfire. I say give California to Canada they can go bankrupt together.

Also a fun tid-bit, California has the lowest average IQ of any state in the union. They may be educated, but they are not smart. Big difference. One of my favorite professors at my university bestowed that on us: There is a big difference between education and intelligence, they are not intertwined.

The RV companies have created a tempest in a teapot with their feeding false information and making ridiculous assertions about truck manufactureres.

Why not use the internet to get the information first hand instead of industry propaganda by special interests?

https://www.gov.ca.gov/2023/04/28/c...-combustion-trucks-and-protect-public-health/

Truck manufacturers will be required to provide some ZEV versions of their medium trucks and chassis (that RV makers use). This same panic was created when California moved to ban lead additives from gasoline that was causing mental retardation and responsible for much of the crime by young adults.

We are about to have the U.S. EPA that was created by a Republican president being eliominated to protect industry profits. Now that is something to get upset about.

I love how the carveouts and exemptions apply pretty much exclusively to vehicles owned by the government, especially K-12 school buses. No gas vehicles for you, but we need them to drag your kids to the indoctrination camps. If it's such a good idea, lead by example. Hypocrisy at its finest.

The big carve out is written into the Clean Air Act allowing CARB to make rules that no other state can do. With the election, I predict this will end. CARB can't continue to create these bans on transportation without EPA's permission. There is a new sheriff at EPA. And now we have the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that will shake things up.

From Google Gemini outlining how CARB has derived Federal like powers:

The Clean Air Act generally prohibits states from setting their own emission standards for new motor vehicles. However, it grants California a unique exemption, allowing the state to request waivers from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to implement stricter standards. If granted, other states can then choose to adopt California's standards.

California's Waiver Requests and EPA's Role

California has a long history of obtaining waivers for its clean air and climate programs. The EPA has consistently granted these waivers based on several factors:
  • Stringency: California's standards must be at least as protective as federal standards.
  • Necessity:The state must demonstrate a compelling and extraordinary need for stricter standards, such as unique air quality challenges.
  • Consistency: California's standards must align with Clean Air Act provisions regarding technical feasibility and lead time for manufacturers.
Specific CARB Exemptions

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) implements and enforces the state's air pollution control programs. Some specific exemptions and programs managed by CARB include:
  • Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation Exemptions: This regulation focuses on transitioning commercial fleets to zero-emission vehicles. It includes exemptions for situations where zero-emission vehicles are unavailable in the required configuration or when a vehicle is damaged beyond repair.

  • Heavy-Duty Vehicle and Engine Emission Standards: CARB has sought and obtained waivers for stricter standards on heavy-duty vehicles, contributing to reduced emissions in the transportation sector.
Key Points to Remember
  • Waivers are crucial for California's stricter standards: The Clean Air Act waiver process is essential for California's ability to address its unique air quality challenges.

  • EPA approval is required:The EPA has the authority to grant or deny California's waiver requests.

  • Other states can adopt California's standards: Once a waiver is granted, other states can choose to follow California's lead in setting stricter emission standards.

  • CARB plays a central role:CARB is responsible for developing and implementing California's air pollution control programs, including those related to vehicle emissions.

The idea that a modern gas engine is somehow better than a modern diesel, with regard to overall emissions is in error.

Manufacturers could however, use 4ea model 3 EV drivetrains in an RV configuration and get at least 180 miles of highway range. Or maybe even up to 140 miles of range towing a car. Or if towing an EV, that could be programmed to provide it's own motive power. That could make for some fantastic cross country trips. Drive 2.5 hours, charge at a megawatt charger, dimming the nearby town, then drive two more hours,,, Fantastic!

Las Vegas is the only blue part of the state as people from that hell hole are moving here by the thousands!
In the early '90s, we had 2,000/month moving into the Las Vegas area, primarily Californians, and we were able to assimilate them into Nevadans.

At somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000/month, though, we were overrun, and they stayed Californians.

We desperately need to build a wall--on our western border!

The California Clean Air Resources Board met last week and did not address the RV and truck industry issues at all. Instead, it passed new emission control rules that will significantly raise fuel prices in 2025… by as much as 65 cents a gallon.
we also need a pipeline to Arizona or Mexico; our gasoline comes almost entirely from the single pipeline to California, so we're stuck with every idiotic trend of theirs!

A friend of mine from college had parents that bought a condo in Dubois Wyoming in the 90s for dirt cheap. We went out the summer of 2000 and did Teton Park and Yellowstone and some offroading as they had an old Blazer out there just for that purpose. Dubois was still very rancher/cowboy centered. Jackson was a little froofy, but not extreme. Cost of living was higher than Illinois, but marginally.

In 2020 me and my family went out for a week plus and it's completely different. Jackson is a lost cause and Dubois is close. Housing prices are ridiculously stupid and the people are not my kind. Montana was just as bad.

We are Gavborg, resistance is futile. Also, he'll be next Democrat Prez candidate.
