I am getting close to my state’s (CO) lemon law out-of-service minimums and the dealership with whom my vehicle is being serviced with is ghosting me. I’d like to work with FMC and facilitate a buyback before going down the legal route. My question, for anyone who has successfully gone down the BB route is, should I be informing the dealership of my intent or will the RAV team notify them on my behalf. I want to extend the courtesy to maintain the relationship but also want to protect myself and any potential outcomes. Thank you.

I have never done a buyback but if I was planning on it I wouldn’t let the dealer know that.I would wait until it is past the out of service time and contact ford first. If you let the dealer know ahead of time they might hurry up and try to get the truck out before the time is up.You might have a dealer that you like and have a good relationship but it’s not against them it’s about a buyback.

My lemon Law attorney told me that to seek a buy back from Ford has to be processed within 12 months of owning the vehicle.

Huh? You must currently own the vehicle, otherwise there's be no basis on which to do a buyback. Did you mean within 12 months of BUYING the vehicle? If so, that varies by state.

I have an open buyback case that has been ongoing since August 5 (truck has mostly been in the shop since May). The first thing the buyback team does is contact the dealership. It is not a quick process. The number to start the process is (800) 392-3673

Thanks everyone for the insight! I got to enjoy driving the truck all of two days before it ended up in the shop with 200 miles on the odometer. I love the truck and I ideally I’d like it to be fixed but if the service I’ve received so far is reflective of what I may be up against throughout the ownership lifecycle, I’d rather pull chocks now.

The timing is dependent upon the state you are located in. For instance, in Virginia, the lemon law period is 18 months.

I am in a similar situation with an SUV that I bought from another manufacturer. Took delivery on December 21, back at the dealer December 23 with barely 200 miles on the odometer. Since that time, had possession maybe 10 days. Dealer is still working on the car even though a replacement is on order. I believe the fact that mine is not fixed yet is not reflective of the dealer’s capabilities.
