The cleat needs to be pulled up further toward the bedrail. The oblong slot should be completely covered.

I had problem with one of mine and got a small file inside the groove on cleat because it was too large in the grooves.

It appears to me that Ford or who ever made them for Ford put too much plastic coating on the part and it is a very tight interference fit. I assume it is much tighter than Ford designed it to be. Not a big deal but some of us will have a hard time putting them in. So don't feel alone if that is you.

The Idea of using a lubricant like liquid soap is a good one but I got mine in before I got the tip.

My first one went in by pushing and wiggling. It did take a good amount of force to make it go.

The next two I was able to put it in the bottom part of the slot and turn sideways and hit it with a rubber mallet to the top of the slot and turn them and wiggle them into place.

The last one I had to remove the plate (4 - T30 Screws) and using the rubber mallet tap it in place. While doing this I saw a small bit of the plastic coating come off and it went into place. This cleat had more plastic on it than the others and would not fit in the grove and but with a tap of the mallet the problem was fixed. I reinstalled the plate with the cleat locked in place. FYI, I think there was locking compound on the plate screws and you may want to have some handy or in my case I will watch them and add it later if needed.

Lastly I dropped the keys into the giant cave I call my center console.

I hope to never tale them off...
