Blue cruise update

Just got home from a short vacation and I had a letter in the mail from Ford. It references a Blue Cruise software update { optional product improvement program 21G01}. The letter states that although my My21 F-150 may have already started the download of the new software , I should contact my dealer for an appointment to have them do it so that I can experience it sooner. It also says that once the update is competed, I will get a one year complimentary subscription to BlueCruise. I have until Dec, 31, 2023 to have it preformed at no charge.
I trust my dealer to do the update, but I am going to drag it out and see if the truck will do it on its own. My reason is, if I have the dealer do it, then my subscription expires 1 year from the update. I already have Bluecruise until Dec 31. I want to wait, hopefully, until mid Sept as I have a long trip down South planned for Nov.
P.S. All my updates have downloaded flawlessly in the past, so I am confident the truck will do it without a problem.

I believe the update process is bugged currently. So it may be wise to let the dealer handle it. Or get a mongoose and do it yourself so the dealer doesnt break anything

Thanks, if that is the case I will let my dealer do it. Going the mongoose route is too expensive and not my cup of tea.

Your truck does not have BlueCruise.

I hate to disagree, but my 21 Platinum does have Bluecruise. I just used it a week ago. Unless it has been disabled and that I am unaware of. I will shoot you a Pm with my vin just to check.

No, I would have fired up my FDRS license and done it right the hell away if that was the case. lol

Right now, BC 1.2 for our trucks has not been officially announced. We all hope we will get it, but right now, there is nothing official.

He said it usually only takes about 2 hours to do but occasionally the update will fail and then they'll need to keep it overnight I said um no thanks, my BC seems to work fine. I suppose I could have asked what the BC update was but decided I didn't wanna risk something else getting hosed.

Nothing would have happened. They would have seen the updates weren't available since your truck already had them.

So, I had my a/c evap coil fixed last November and while it was there (for a month mind you!) they offered to update/install the BlueCruise. I don't know if it's because this dealership is gigantic and they had over 30 vehicles in the bays, hundreds of fleet vehicles and police cruisers, etc. and lots of steel building components so the "signal" or whatever was bad...but it took them close to 5 days to get it fully installed -- said it's because of signal, constant pausing and not being around when it paused so it would restart the whole install, etc. And even when I came to pick it up, they said they didn't get the all-clear at the end and had to contact Ford support, so I left without it again and came back the next day, which I had to leave for NC for Christmas. That being said, once I picked it up and started driving to NC, the bed lights quit working and then the interior lights flashed nonstop, draining the battery. Then my alarm was triggered Christmas Eve morning for zero reason. The neighbors were not happy. Lol. It was awful. Not sure if the BC caused it but they weren't an issue beforehand. So, then it took over a month just to get the interior and bed lights fixed at a different dealer (back in February) because the one that did BC was booked out until July! What a mess! Now I'm afraid to even try BC because I don't know if something else will go wrong! LOL But since I got a new BCM in March, truck seems to have no issues....I did try BC for a hot minute and it kept saying "Hands on the Wheel" ... well I thought the whole purpose was hands-free driving as long as your eyes are on the road. Lol. So beware! I'd hold out until as long as possible if I knew all of the bugs and issues beforehand! Keep us posted and good luck!

So the mongoose will allow you to update your vehicle modules? Does it give you access as well to the actually update soft ware?

Yes, you can update all your modules with a Mongoose and a license to access FDRS.

Access to the software? What do you mean by that?

Ya sorry wasn’t to clear due to the fact that I don’t know lol but I get it you need a mongoose cable and then pay for the fdrs to do updates fdrs is what gives you the software to update
