I went under.. Advice on going under is to mark and cut the holes a bit to allow the screws to "slide in" as you tighten down the work surface. I didn't and the edges pull away from the velcro and turn up.. I'll probably go back and fix this but it's not a big deal

Bump…I’m doing mine now, and I’m going to install it under the work surface…I’m thinking you mean cut holes big enough to let the screws in easily for the Work surface…but I was wondering if I need to cut a much larger hole, OR is the rug thin enough to allow you to put it back on top as it was.

I like the seam between the bed and tailgate being connected…but this is also my first truck, so we’ll see what I think .

thanks!

FYI - I installed the bedrug under the work surface…looks great/clean. The ends fold up a bit, but I may be able to tape them down if they bug me. I do wish I had put more tape on the rug near the fenders….it does bubble here a bit, but I don’t really want to redo this part…just wish they had indicated a need to put more tape here.

Thanks, when I do my install I'm going to pickup some extra 3m fasteners / velcro to get the fender area as clean as possible. I assume the kit the comes with the rug doesn't provide much extra.

Still undecided on going over/under the work surface tailgate. For those that went under, I am also curious if you cut the bedrug or only made holes for the screws.

I would go over the work surface , who is crazy enough to use their 70k truck as a work bench / saw horse

Probably the same person who will buy a 70k truck ;-)

I still owe everyone a photo…out of town until the weekend, but I’ll post one soon enough…sorry.

Over or under? I'll be installing over the work surface as I believe most people will because most people really don't care about the work surface. I placed this bet in Vegas: most people don't care about the work surface. I won. Besides - as has been said - just peel it back to uncover the work surface. Easy peasy.

I you wish to go under the work surface, I can't envision the need to trim the Bedrug. Why? The work surface can just sit on top of the untrimmed Bedrug. Without trimming the work surface will just sit a little higher. With trimming the work surface won't be flat. It'll be bowl shaped; lower in the middle than around the edges. Whether you trim or not, If the Bedrug is going to be under the work surface edge, when you tighten down the work surface this will cause the outer edges of the Bedrug to curl up a bit. Care will be required to counter this....that is if this bothers you.

I chose the Bedrug for appearance and comfort. My suitcases and grocery bags really don't care about the bed liner, but my eyes, gluteus maximus, and knees do. These want carpet, not plastic or aluminum under them.

I’m going under when I do mine. I think it adds to the factory finish look assuming you do the other cut outs properly.

I plan to attempt the under also. If the results bother me I can always switch to over as I won't be cutting anything.

I recently told my dealer to add this to my order since the spray in liner wasn't an option. After seeing this, I think going under the work surface makes a lot of sense, so you can utilize it if you ever need to. I don't plan on using my truck as a sawhorse, but I don't like covering up a useful feature that exists.

I put the rug under. I think the work surface will wear better. It seems like everything gets set on the tailgate before it gets loaded.

For those of you that say you'll just flip up the tailgate portion to get to the work surface, just be forewarned. On my '17 I pulled the bedrug out once to clean it and under it (I didn't have the one that did the sides)

The tailgate portion never stuck again. I emailed bedrug and they sent me new Velcro for the tailgate but it was the portion on the carpet that was bad.

Now I'm sure if you bought from them, they might replace the whole bedrug, but I bought from Amazon and didn't notice it was a third party seller. So bedrug refused to do anything more than send out a few strips of Velcro. I don't blame them, but my point is that I would be careful with that Velcro on the tailgate part.

The Velcro holding the bed part down never had an issue.

On my '22 I bought it without the tailgate. I'm thinking I may buy the full one again and install it under work surface. Mainly to have the gap covered and it does help slide bigger items in the bed.

Any cutting or just the holes for the screws?
