Battery Concerns

I installed a new Napa H8 battery in my truck a year ago. I've noticed it's cranking slower and ASS isn't working anymore.

Besides checking the obvious, has anyone had this issue?

Well, here is where I am at.

12.09V resting.
15.06V with the truck running.

I put my battery charger on it to see what percentage of charge is and it showed 40%. I drove 32 mins or 24 miles.

Have you had the battery tested to see if it is possibly bad? Also, do you have any aftermarket accessories on your truck or items that stay plugged into the accessory ports? Also, how long did you wait after you turned off the truck to get the resting voltage above?

Ask @rugedraw to check your VIN and see if you got the OTA that improved the charging strategy. I got it a couple of months ago.

That's my next step is to bring it to Napa and have them test it. I have it on my charger for tonight for the hell of it.

Nothing in accessory ports other than my work phone but the ports shut off after 15 mins.

I would try checking the resting voltage after an hour or so and see if it's any different.

You need to ensure all modules are shutdown in order to get a true resting voltage. That takes 75 minutes. If you're going to open the hood to take a battery voltage reading, unlatch it so you don't have to open the drivers door (which then kicks in a bunch of modules...).

Also, leave your keys inside the house when you take the measurement so they don't wake up the truck as you approach.

It doesn’t get updates by your choice? Or is there something wrong with the OTA mechanism on your truck?
As others have pointed out, there have been significant improvements in electrical system performance via OTA updates.

Many don't set the parking brake. If it's not set the update won't happen.

Hmmm, please educate me .... is that in reference to a particular OTA update?

I've received 17 OTA updates between Sep 17, 2022 and Sep 22, 2024, always when my truck is parked at my house on level ground without the parking brake set. Am I missing something?

FWIW I don't recall ever receiving any notification of a 'failed update' on my display or via FordPass.

Here is the update no one was waiting for...

Napa Legend. H8. 13 months old.

I charged it to 100%. Reset BMS. Drove it for a week or so and noticed it slowly fading. I brought it to my buddies shop and tested the battery on one of those fancy testers. Battery showed 52%.

I installed a new battery and drove the truck home. I put it on the charger and once charged, I reset the BMS.

Everything is back to "normal."

I need schooling - how is one able to see what updates have been installed (e.g., the schedule you posted)? TIA
