Absolutely love my bare bones 23' XL. Because it isn't my primary ride (Subaru Solterra), I get a kick driving it when necessity dictates. Pulls the loaded flatbed like it doesn't even exist (car, tractor, lumber), tandem axle livestock trailer a nothing burger (dirt, rock, mulch, pellet stove fuel - got rid of the Dexter cattle). Wish I had shift paddles, can't justify the costs though - just have to make sure I've got the correct drive mode selected and the transmission does the job quite well. No replacement in the future!
How do you like the Solterra? I have a ‘22 Outback Limited Touring XT ( the name is bigger than the car lol ), and I’ve seen the Solterra in the showroom when at the dealership having scheduled maintenance done.

I miss my 2013 non-turbo Outback! Traded my step daughter for her itty bitty '12 Imprezza (she needed the bigger car) & already owned the Solterra. Seldom do the wife & I travel greater than 60 miles round trip, so commuting to work is by Solterra. KNOW IT'S LIMITS before jumping on the wagon. The '25 fixes the charging situation in below freezing temps, but still intentionally extremely slow charging at every level to save the battery. Quitest Subaru I've ever driven, love the torque, hate the prius steering wheel (not the standard Subaru controls layout). Wouldn't own an EV if I couldn't level 2 charge at home.
I wanted the F150 lightning dearly, was going to use it for both commuting and 'truck stuff', but after two years of having a lightning pro on reservation & getting jerked around (price & availabilty), the wife authorized the purchase of an F150 ICE. Got exactly what I needed/wanted (kids are out of the house) & wanted to haul plywood, drywall, & park in a grocery store parking space. The previous '89 F250 super crew cab with long bed was attrocious to park in a spot like that.
Take a Solterra for a test drive, select 'power' drive mode if you do so. Honestly, having had a turbo Forester at one time, I'd probably keep the '22 Outback you have - it's a nice car!
BTW, love the color of your truck (the Solterra is red). I did settle for a fleet truck, thus the white.

I guess I dont get it. The V-8 is not offered in the Platnium any longer. No premium packages offer the V-8. So if you want a high end package, your stuck with a V-6. That ends my desire to own a (new 24)Ford PU. I'll pick one of the other brands, or better yet, stick with what I have.
The only difference between a Platinum and 502A Lariat is the Platinum chrome tailgate plaque which looks cool. Still got to get chrome rims which isn’t cool. Since the V8 has cylinder deactivation and the 3.5 V6 is a twin turbo it doesn’t make sense getting the cylinder deactivated V8.

My 2021 V8 Lariat 501A was a lease and it expired recently after I'd put approx 52k miles on it over the 3 years of pretty well trouble free motoring. If I'd financed in the first place I would have kept it, however after doing all the numbers it was a no brainer to buy another one....

I'm probably the target market for the current Lariat... (older and wider?) I only wanted a V8, FX4, Lariat and it comes standard exactly how I wanted it other than adding a moonroof (same as last time) and now as I went to 502A I get HUD (which I love and had many years ago in other vehicles), and a couple of other minor extras which actually mean a lot to me... eg the extended running board means I don't have to step up onto the wheel to reach into the front part of the bed and as a builder my tools can often fill up the entire bed.....

So, even though I upgraded from a 2021 to a 2024 Lariat, added a couple of new options with the 501A to 502A, thanks to the guys at Granger I have paid exactly $820 more for my 2024 than I did for my 2021 back 3 years ago.......... and I'm very happy with my new truck.

Each person's situation is different so as I said in another thread, for me it was no problems...

Now if I wanted a V8 Platinum then that's a problem.....
Older and wider? So 41 years old and 158 lbs is wide. Interesting take.

I appreciate the great reply! Hey, that XL of yours is pretty cool in its own right. 3.5 4x4 regular cab long bed? That's a rare combo right there I'd imagine. Nice. How's the payload look?
My PB is considered above average at #1624 lol. Unicorns are a bit heavy don't you know...

Really want a platnium , my 22 Lariat has been great 17k trouble free miles ! Ordered a 24 plati last fall and it finally showed up was all excited till the stealership told me my truck was worth 45k get the f out of here lol , sticker on my lariat was 76k so apparently these dont hold there value at all ! So this dealer has 4 ordered platinum's sitting on the lot now ! My next move may be a bare bones xlt or gm / ram .
What Lariat do you have? A 502A might get 49K in my opinion but a 501A is probably about 45K.

I would not do that. You are probably running way too lean, and it won’t have the right energy content. If you want to run e85 you’ll need to get a tune to activate the fueling strategy. The last gas station by me just stopped selling E-85. I can’t get E-85 within a 200 mile radius, I’d imagine it’s the same for much of the country. It’s been becoming less and less available.

Was fun the 2 times I ran it though, decent boost in power.
I have one station half a mile away that has it, but charges almost as much as regular gas. The one I go to is about 30 miles round trip, but sells for $1.79-$2.19.

I always use it, year round. Kept in a heated garage for the winter so I don't do many remote start warm-ups. And I drive less than 7500 miles a year, so I'm not going very far daily, so I only saw about a 1mpg drop when switching over.

My 2021 Platinum 5.0L SuperCrew has every option on it that I wanted and not a single COVID delete. While I could pay it off tomorrow if I wanted, I only have ~2 years left @ 1.89% APR. 66K trouble-free miles.

I almost traded it in last month on a 2024 F350 Lariat Ultimate Powerstroke, but changed my mind at the last minute. It was a beautiful truck, but it would not have been the best decision financially ... and my F150 has treated me very well.

So instead of trading it in, I put some dollars into showing her more love. Had her fully detailed inside and out (like brand new!), bought a Leer 100XQ topper to replace the Retrax Pro MX retractable tonneau, and will likely be ordering Bilstein 6112/5160 setup soon. Oh, new tires ~2 months ago, too. I also enabled BlueCruise 1.4-ish (lane changes by tapping the turn signal and much improved lane centering). Since it was a 2021 Job 1 truck, I got the first 2 years of BC subscription and 12 free oil changes for free due to the OTA debacle with Job 1 trucks (bought truck 5/21, BC not enabled until 4/22) , and recently got the next 3 year BlueCruise subscription for $600 ($200 per year). I'm set until May 2027.

It would be totally dumb to trade in my 2021 Platinum right now or any time soon.

When Ford eliminated the possibility to get the V-8 5.0 coyote in a fully loaded truck,,,,, they lost my future trade ins. Why would I deliberately go backwards.

Government is forcing manufacturers to do stupid things to be in compliance with unrealistic mandates and meaningless restrictions.

Wonder why not eliminating the 5.0 in the lower trims, instead of the higher(s)? Doesn't matter the reason, what they did stops me from trading for a better truck. I already have the better truck, IMO

I think that shift had a lot to do with streamlining and Ford evaluated what was ordered. The 3.5 EB was eliminated from the STX, and 2.7 was eliminated from Lariat. They did also add the 5.0 V8 to the Tremor so I don’t think there is any agenda there. All the powertrain options we have now are very likely gone in 2027 for the next round of emissions updates anyway. That or there will only be hybrid versions.

Realistically those ordering Platinums with what ~1200 lbs payload~ probably don’t use the truck for work or care much about motors and generally will have an office job. That client doesn’t even know what a V8 vs a V6 is, so they aren’t ordering one. A Tremor owner who off roads? Ya they more likely a gear head and may want a V8. My take.

They do what they need to do to meet CAFE. Maybe more lower trim trucks are already built with fewer V8 engines?
