At $17 per quart for the preferred pricing on the Amsoil, that would be the most expensive fluid I've ever put in my vehicle.

As an another high performance alternative, I've read lots of good things about Teal (far right on the chart) and one of my friends has run it in his Mustang and been very happy with it. No more shudders and he drives the piss out of his car on the street and strip. I will be ordering a 5 gallon bucket (works out to $13.50 per quart) later this year to do my next trans flush.

I’ve used Amsoil ATF in previous trucks and it’s worked well so when I recently saw that they make a ULV I thought I’d give it a whirl in my 10r80.

I did a drain and fill using the Amsoil ULV in my 2020 f150 last week. I noticed an immediate increase in transmission temp while driving in stop and go traffic.

With the Mercon ULV, the transmission temp would stabilize at 181-183 degrees with and ambient temperature of 80-85 degrees. The same day at same ambient temperature, in the same driving conditions, my transmission temperature stabilized at 189-191 degrees with the Amsoil ULV. It also felt to me like there was more clutch slip during gear changes with the Amsoil.

To me, none of this equated to an improvement so a couple days later I did 2 drain and fills using Mercon ULV. Temps and shifting is back to the way it was before. Not a cheap experiment but I guess I learned something.

Thank you LFG, I was about to order a case of Amsoil ATF today for my pan change but I'll stick with Motorcraft now.

With how common this complaint is, I'm surprised no one has come out with an aftermarket pan that uses a stand pipe for setting the fluid level. Getting the trans up to temp, removing the stand pipe drain plug, and letting the extra fluid drain out until it slows to a drip is pretty fool proof.

I'm also confused by how common it is for people to have issues reading the dipstick. I get that it's not in a fun area, but that doesn't make reading the level difficult, it just makes checking the level uncomfortable.
This is a great system……Toyota has used it for about 20 years
