Air Filter Restriction Gauge 2021 3.5L Lariat

Has anyone added an air filter restriction gauge to this engine? I hate just changing the filter based on miles/time.

good question. I usually just take a look and see if it's in a less than relatively new state. Every 15k miles or so. I'm not opposed to check on it now and then to shake out anything that can be removed.

Brilliant David. Lots of folks change them much much too early. Did you know most (think all) paper air filters pass the most dirt when new? Are much more effective when dirty? And do not affect MPG? They can, when utterly filthy (much much worse than you would imagine), restrict top end HP.

A gauge is the answer.

This, BTW, is also why using things like K&N filters are a terrible idea. Might as well just put your engine on suicide watch.

Ford recommends changing every 30k miles and for most people that is good enough. If one is in a rural environment with a lot of wind blown dirt a shorter interval would not hurt.

A Fram Extra Guard Filter sells for less than $11 with free delivery on Amazon so not a big deal to replace. On my Chevy diesel engine the Fram was not as good in terms of an airtight fit as the OEM ACDelco filter and cost more. Maybe the Fram Ford filter is better

k&N would have you clean/replace at 10”. most would tell you 15” is still reducing tiny amounts of peak HP? Ymmv
