Add trailer brake controller to 2024

If there's one thing all of these threads on the TBC have taught me. When the time comes to add it to my '24, I will be swallowing my pride as a usual DIY'er for just about everything, and just go to the dealer lol. Really does show how complicated these vehicles have become.

It was actually pretty easy if you're willing and able to do the Forscan part. I already had it going from my 2018 so that part was easy. I just ordered the part, installed and did the Forscan modification.

To follow up on my earlier question, what ended up solving my problem was loading my original as built file from the TRM module which loaded correct values. I did the +1 modification per the spreadsheet and saved. I haven't towed yet but all seems good.

I concur with bwaler. Overall, it was simple if you're doing Forscan. My issue was the module under the dash needed to be the one that came with the switch controller. Afterwards I was thinking it might has worked by just unplugging and replugging in the module that Ford put in there.
Anyhow, in the end:
- install the controller switch (2 minutes)
- install the new TRM under the dash (2 minutes, 10mm socket)
- do the Forscan. 4 things total: 1.) 791-01-02 and add one to the the 6th character (if it's a 6 make it a 7 etc) 2-4) enable the three trailer brake items: IPC easy mode and search for trailer brake, there are 3 that need enabled. trailer break control module, trailer break controller gain setting and trailer break module.
Thanks again to this thread, I spent $250 for the part and some time and patience.

It seems like recently maybe some of the quirks have been ironed out as the modules have been confirmed. Maybe I will end up giving it a shot. Never used forscan so afraid to muck something up.

follow my instructions, its pretty easy. mine took about 30 minutes. did my dads after in about 15 min since i already knew what i was doing.

Not sure if this has anything to do with people who installed themselves, but there's an SSM related to the kit.


SSM 53096 2024 F-150 Non-Lightning - Equipped With Minor Feature CodesC2BAW, C1CAG And FDDAA - Installing The Trailer Brake Contoller Kit
2024 F-150 non-Lightning vehicles not equipped with a factory installed integrated trailer brake controller must have specific vehicle content from the factory to enable successful customer-pay upgrade to the integrated trailer brake controller. Vehicles must be equipped with minor feature codes C2BAW, C1CAG, and FDDAA. To confirm a vehicle is equipped with these minor feature codes, refer to the vehicle build information by double-clicking the vehicle identification number (VIN) in the upper left corner in Professional Technician System (PTS). The integrated trailer brake controller kit for 2024 F-150 non-Lightning vehicles is RL3Z-19H332-AA. Installation of this kit is not a warrantable condition and is subject to chargeback.

Thanks for the write up. After a push from @rugedraw I pulled the trigger on the kit and all the ForScan stuff. Since I am not good with computer programming anything...I must of watched 20 different YouTube videos on how ForScan downloads and works. Then watched them again. And finally got to it today. Took about 30 mins. I also changed a few other "easy" items while I was there. Everything went easy and as I remembered from the videos. And now I have a gain number I can change with the button on the dash. I will tow with it tomorrow and make sure it works. I am not expecting any issues though.

Great news, let us know how it goes towing. My favorite forscan option is walk away lock on the 2024 year models and up. 2nd is Bambi mode.

Everything worked as it should have today. Hooked up the trailer and set the gain to 4.0. Towed great. You can feel the trailer braking with the gain displayed in the dash moving on the scale. Towed 80 miles today to mow. No issues.

These steps worked for me, with the addition of saving the TRM as built data from the original module before swapping it, writing back the original as built data to the new TRM module after swapping it, and then adjusting the 791-01-02 6th character.

I appreciate this thread, I also just bought a 2024 STX last week, put the trailer brake controller into it a few days ago, and towed with it for the first time. Couldn't be happier.

Followed a good YouTube vid on how to install a 2025. Showed how to enable trailer brake info in the IPC module. Although the guy left “Trailer Blind Spot” disabled. Is this normal. I have a ‘25 302A PowerBoost.

Got the controller and under dash module installed and Forscan edits done. Everything works and no DTC codes. Just curious about that “Trailer Blind Spot” function.
