Hello smart truck coding folks!

I have a 2022 F-150 STX. It came with the 4/7-pin class IV hitch package, 53B. I just bought a Ford OEM trailer brake controller ... ML3Z-19H332-AB (says 2021-2023). I installed the module and gain switch.

I decided to learn about FORSCAN and do the programming myself to learn about it and make other changes. And not pay almost $200 for the dealer to do it! And from what I have read on here not all Ford dealers successfully install this. I had to help them order the right controller for my truck.

I made the the FORSCAN changes in the IPC by "enabling" these three line items using "easy mode": Trailer Brake Control Module (TBCM), Trailer Brake Controller Gain, and Trailer Brake Module.

I now have gain and it recognizes the trailer. Gain switch makes the trailer brakes click. I didn't try it with the truck brake pedal ... forgot, didn't tow, just hooked up.

My problem is I have all F's in the TRM with the sum codes. I am confused on what to do at this point. I backed up all my "as built" files after I installed the module under the dash.

My VIN is 1FTEX1CB1NKE30765. Can someone look up what my TRM setting should be?

From reading above should I re-hook up my old module and save the "as built" data? If so, how would I write the "as built" to the new module? And what would I change after that?

Also, what do the TRM settings impact? I haven't noticed anything driving the truck today.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You will need to update those 'FF' values to what your old module has set with Forscan. When I installed mine, I hand entered the values into the new module since there are only 10 lines. After updating the line, click 'write' button and it will save the values.

Once the new module is programmed the same as the old, you can reapply the settings to enable the brake controller (you should only need to re-apply 791-01-02 since the other settings are in different modules and should still be set from what you did earlier).

You can lookup the As Built from: https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt, the site reports the following values for your VIN:

791-01-010100010011AD
791-01-02101130EC
791-02-010A5440FC0035

Thanks! So if I understand you, I can manually input (write) all these values in the TRM module.

Do I change the "As Built" line or the standalone TRM line?

So regarding 791-01-02 I believe you mean I change the "E" from the factory to "F" (for TBMC present) from Livinitup's FORSCAN spreadsheet? From the TRM module tab (21-23) on the spreadsheet.

I couldn't access the link you provided on my computer, but I could on my iPhone ... I will have to figure that out ... nothing is easy!

I really appreciate your time and help! I won't be able to attack this until Saturday, I will let you know how it goes.

Yikes! And I have have seen on here some don't know how.
I ordered mine direct from Ford on-line sales. Install is $182 dollars but not all dealers are listed to do the install. I will have to travel to the next town over pick-up the part and have it installed but total price was less than 1/2 what my local dealer quoted me.

Yup, you should be able to select the "TRM Module configuration (AS BUILT format)" when looking at the module list in Forscan and it will present a table similar to above. Once there, you can hand key in the values. I am not familiar with the TRM line you mentioned (I haven't tried easy mode, so that might be where that line is). Its a little too hot in the garage to check today :)

Regarding 791-01-02 that is correct, follow Livinitup's spreadsheet and add 1 as indicated. It should be position 6, so in your case swap from a 0 to 1.

The link is Ford's As Built lookup page, you should be able to enter a VIN and see the "current" As-Built information (I am not sure how often it updates, when I checked my truck its a few month out of date, so who knows).

Got it, I read the wrong digit in your original post. 0 to 1 in 791-01-02. In the AsBuilt TRM line. There might not be a non-AsBuilt TRM line, not all modules have them and I haven't looked again yet ... so might not have been a valid question. Will provide a how it went Saturday. Thanks again.

@sport19 I successfully programmed my trailer brake controller. I manually entered the 10 lines of code in the TRM AsBuilt line and made the change to the one character as you indicated above from the spreadsheet. On one of the "writes" I heard two or three clicks from the physical trailer controller module down by the kick panel I had installed. Gain works, says "no trailer" since I was not hooked up. Next weekend I will make sure it works with the camper hooked up. I also successfully turned off my key in ignition chime and door open chime, both of which I found annoying. Thank you for the help!

Great to hear! Now that you mention it, I recall the clicking during the programming as well.

Thanks for sharing all of this great info. I bought the controller off my local Ford dealer, and installed/programmed it yesterday. The install was smooth and only took a few minutes, and the programming part was a snap.

Had my TBC installed this afternoon at the dealership the next town over. I had ordered it on-line from Ford.com during a 20% off sale and they were the closest dealer on Ford's list that could do the install. The TBC unit came with a replacement module and in-dash manual control. I was not expecting that my control module had be replaced and disposed of instead of reprogrammed. Apparently, the 24 F150s TBC are easier to install compared to earlier model years, e.g., no added fuse, maybe less programming. It must be easier as the installed took 1/2 hour (similar to Haggis' post). Makes my local dealer's $595 labor estimate look outlandish.

Now its time to find a trailer to test it out on.

It installed the same way as you described on my 2022 F-150. I believe 2021 and up all work the same way.

Good news. I believe the 24 and up is a different unit/part no. than prior years.

Anyone know if all this info for the 24, is the same for the 25?
May have a truck locked-in XLT 5.0 supercrew with 3.31 gear ratio...
No tow package but does have IV hitch & smrt trlr tow connector.
